Surah Al-Mu'minūn - سورة المؤمنون
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
TransliterationQad aflaha almu/minoon
Sahih InternationalCertainly will the believers have succeeded:
PickthallSuccessful indeed are the believers
Yusuf AliThe believers must (eventually) win through,-
TransliterationAllatheena hum fee salatihimkhashiAAoon
Sahih InternationalThey who are during their prayer humbly submissive
PickthallWho are humble in their prayers,
Yusuf AliThose who humble themselves in their prayers;
TransliterationWallatheena hum AAani allaghwimuAAridoon
Sahih InternationalAnd they who turn away from ill speech
PickthallAnd who shun vain conversation,
Yusuf AliWho avoid vain talk;
TransliterationWallatheena hum lizzakatifaAAiloon
Sahih InternationalAnd they who are observant of zakah
PickthallAnd who are payers of the poor-due;
Yusuf AliWho are active in deeds of charity;
TransliterationWallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoon
Sahih InternationalAnd they who guard their private parts
PickthallAnd who guard their modesty -
Yusuf AliWho abstain from sex,
TransliterationIlla AAala azwajihim awma malakat aymanuhum fa-innahum ghayru maloomeen
Sahih InternationalExcept from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed -
PickthallSave from their wives or the (slaves) that their right hands possess, for then they are not blameworthy,
Yusuf AliExcept with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (in their case) they are free from blame,
TransliterationFamani ibtagha waraa thalikafaola-ika humu alAAadoon
Sahih InternationalBut whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -
PickthallBut whoso craveth beyond that, such are transgressors -
Yusuf AliBut those whose desires exceed those limits are transgressors;-
TransliterationWallatheena hum li-amanatihimwaAAahdihim raAAoon
Sahih InternationalAnd they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive
PickthallAnd who are shepherds of their pledge and their covenant,
Yusuf AliThose who faithfully observe their trusts and their covenants;
TransliterationWallatheena hum AAala salawatihimyuhafithoon
Sahih InternationalAnd they who carefully maintain their prayers -
PickthallAnd who pay heed to their prayers.
Yusuf AliAnd who (strictly) guard their prayers;-
TransliterationOla-ika humu alwarithoon
Sahih InternationalThose are the inheritors
PickthallThese are the heirs
Yusuf AliThese will be the heirs,
TransliterationAllatheena yarithoona alfirdawsa humfeeha khalidoon
Sahih InternationalWho will inherit al-Firdaus. They will abide therein eternally.
PickthallWho will inherit paradise. There they will abide.
Yusuf AliWho will inherit Paradise: they will dwell therein (for ever).
TransliterationWalaqad khalaqna al-insana minsulalatin min teen
Sahih InternationalAnd certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.
PickthallVerily We created man from a product of wet earth;
Yusuf AliMan We did create from a quintessence (of clay);
TransliterationThumma jaAAalnahu nutfatan feeqararin makeen
Sahih InternationalThen We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging.
PickthallThen placed him as a drop (of seed) in a safe lodging;
Yusuf AliThen We placed him as (a drop of) sperm in a place of rest, firmly fixed;
TransliterationThumma khalaqna annutfataAAalaqatan fakhalaqna alAAalaqata mudghatanfakhalaqna almudghata AAithamanfakasawna alAAithama lahmanthumma ansha/nahu khalqan akhara fatabarakaAllahu ahsanu alkhaliqeen
Sahih InternationalThen We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah , the best of creators.
PickthallThen fashioned We the drop a clot, then fashioned We the clot a little lump, then fashioned We the little lump bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, and then produced it as another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators!
Yusuf AliThen We made the sperm into a clot of congealed blood; then of that clot We made a (foetus) lump; then we made out of that lump bones and clothed the bones with flesh; then we developed out of it another creature. So blessed be Allah, the best to create!
TransliterationThumma innakum baAAda thalikalamayyitoon
Sahih InternationalThen indeed, after that you are to die.
PickthallThen lo! after that ye surely die.
Yusuf AliAfter that, at length ye will die
TransliterationThumma innakum yawma alqiyamatitubAAathoon
Sahih InternationalThen indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.
PickthallThen lo! on the Day of Resurrection ye are raised (again).
Yusuf AliAgain, on the Day of Judgment, will ye be raised up.
TransliterationWalaqad khalaqna fawqakum sabAAa tara-iqawama kunna AAani alkhalqi ghafileen
Sahih InternationalAnd We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our] creation unaware.
PickthallAnd We have created above you seven paths, and We are never unmindful of creation.
Yusuf AliAnd We have made, above you, seven tracts; and We are never unmindful of (our) Creation.
TransliterationWaanzalna mina assama-imaan biqadarin faaskannahu fee al-ardiwa-inna AAala thahabin bihi laqadiroon
Sahih InternationalAnd We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away.
PickthallAnd we send down from the sky water in measure, and We give it lodging in the earth, and lo! We are Able to withdraw it.
Yusuf AliAnd We send down water from the sky according to (due) measure, and We cause it to soak in the soil; and We certainly are able to drain it off (with ease).
TransliterationFaansha/na lakum bihi jannatinmin nakheelin waaAAnabin lakum feeha fawakihukatheeratun waminha ta/kuloon
Sahih InternationalAnd We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.
PickthallThen We produce for you therewith gardens of date-palms and grapes, wherein is much fruit for you and whereof ye eat;
Yusuf AliWith it We grow for you gardens of date-palms and vines: in them have ye abundant fruits: and of them ye eat (and have enjoyment),-
TransliterationWashajaratan takhruju min toori saynaatanbutu bidduhni wasibghin lilakileen
Sahih InternationalAnd [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food for those who eat.
PickthallAnd a tree that springeth forth from Mount Sinai that groweth oil and relish for the eaters.
Yusuf AliAlso a tree springing out of Mount Sinai, which produces oil, and relish for those who use it for food.
TransliterationWa-inna lakum fee al-anAAamilaAAibratan nusqeekum mimma fee butoonihawalakum feeha manafiAAu katheeratun waminhata/kuloon
Sahih InternationalAnd indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.
PickthallAnd lo! in the cattle there is verily a lesson for you. We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies, and many uses have ye in them, and of them do ye eat;
Yusuf AliAnd in cattle (too) ye have an instructive example: from within their bodies We produce (milk) for you to drink; there are, in them, (besides), numerous (other) benefits for you; and of their (meat) ye eat;
TransliterationWaAAalayha waAAala alfulki tuhmaloon
Sahih InternationalAnd upon them and on ships you are carried.
PickthallAnd on them and on the ship ye are carried.
Yusuf AliAn on them, as well as in slips, ye side.
TransliterationWalaqad arsalna noohan ilaqawmihi faqala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha malakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoon
Sahih InternationalAnd We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allah ; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
PickthallAnd We verily sent Noah unto his folk, and he said: O my people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other Allah save Him. Will ye not ward off (evil)?
Yusuf Ali(Further, We sent a long line of prophets for your instruction). We sent Noah to his people: He said, "O my people! worship Allah! Ye have no other god but Him. Will ye not fear (Him)?"
TransliterationFaqala almalao allatheenakafaroo min qawmihi ma hatha illa basharunmithlukum yureedu an yatafaddala AAalaykum walaw shaaAllahu laanzala mala-ikatan ma samiAAnabihatha fee aba-ina al-awwaleen
Sahih InternationalBut the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allah had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers.
PickthallBut the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved, said: This is only a mortal like you who would make himself superior to you. Had Allah willed, He surely could have sent down angels. We heard not of this in the case of our fathers of old.
Yusuf AliThe chiefs of the Unbelievers among his people said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: his wish is to assert his superiority over you: if Allah had wished (to send messengers), He could have sent down angels; never did we hear such a thing (as he says), among our ancestors of old."
TransliterationIn huwa illa rajulun bihi jinnatunfatarabbasoo bihi hatta heen
Sahih InternationalHe is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time."
PickthallHe is only a man in whom is a madness, so watch him for a while.
Yusuf Ali(And some said): "He is only a man possessed: wait (and have patience) with him for a time."
TransliterationQala rabbi onsurnee bimakaththaboon
Sahih International[Noah] said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."
PickthallHe said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me.
Yusuf Ali(Noah) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood!"
TransliterationFaawhayna ilayhi ani isnaAAialfulka bi-aAAyunina wawahyina fa-ithajaa amruna wafara attannooru faslukfeeha min kullin zawjayni ithnayni waahlaka illaman sabaqa AAalayhi alqawlu minhum wala tukhatibneefee allatheena thalamoo innahum mughraqoon
Sahih InternationalSo We inspired to him, "Construct the ship under Our observation, and Our inspiration, and when Our command comes and the oven overflows, put into the ship from each [creature] two mates and your family, except those for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned.
PickthallThen We inspired in him, saying: Make the ship under Our eyes and Our inspiration. Then, when Our command cometh and the oven gusheth water, introduce therein of every (kind) two spouses, and thy household save him thereof against whom the Word hath already gone forth. And plead not with Me on behalf of those who have done wrong. Lo! they will be drowned.
Yusuf AliSo We inspired him (with this message): "Construct the Ark within Our sight and under Our guidance: then when comes Our Command, and the fountains of the earth gush forth, take thou on board pairs of every species, male and female, and thy family- except those of them against whom the Word has already gone forth: And address Me not in favour of the wrong-doers; for they shall be drowned (in the Flood).
TransliterationFa-itha istawayta anta waman maAAakaAAala alfulki faquli alhamdu lillahi allatheenajjana mina alqawmi aththalimeen
Sahih InternationalAnd when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, 'Praise to Allah who has saved us form the wrongdoing people.'
PickthallAnd when thou art on board the ship, thou and whoso is with thee, then say: Praise be to Allah Who hath saved us from the wrongdoing folk!
Yusuf AliAnd when thou hast embarked on the Ark - thou and those with thee,- say: "Praise be to Allah, Who has saved us from the people who do wrong."
TransliterationWaqul rabbi anzilnee munzalan mubarakanwaanta khayru almunzileen
Sahih InternationalAnd say, 'My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].' "
PickthallAnd say: My Lord! Cause me to land at a blessed landing-place, for Thou art Best of all who bring to land.
Yusuf AliAnd say: "O my Lord! enable me to disembark with thy blessing: for Thou art the Best to enable (us) to disembark."
TransliterationInna fee thalika laayatinwa-in kunna lamubtaleen
Sahih InternationalIndeed in that are signs, and indeed, We are ever testing [Our servants].
PickthallLo! herein verily are portents, for lo! We are ever putting (mankind) to the test.
Yusuf AliVerily in this there are Signs (for men to understand); (thus) do We try (men).
TransliterationThumma ansha/na min baAAdihim qarnan akhareen
Sahih InternationalThen We produced after them a generation of others.
PickthallThen, after them, We brought forth another generation;
Yusuf AliThen We raised after them another generation.
TransliterationFaarsalna feehim rasoolan minhum anioAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhuafala tattaqoon
Sahih InternationalAnd We sent among them a messenger from themselves, [saying], "Worship Allah ; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
PickthallAnd we sent among them a messenger of their own, saying: Serve Allah, Ye have no other Allah save Him. Will ye not ward off (evil)?
Yusuf AliAnd We sent to them a messenger from among themselves, (saying), "Worship Allah! ye have no other god but Him. Will ye not fear (Him)?"
TransliterationWaqala almalao min qawmihi allatheenakafaroo wakaththaboo biliqa-i al-akhiratiwaatrafnahum fee alhayati addunyama hatha illa basharun mithlukum ya/kulumimma ta/kuloona minhu wayashrabu mimma tashraboon
Sahih InternationalAnd the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink.
PickthallAnd the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink.
Yusuf AliAnd the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and on whom We had bestowed the good things of this life, said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: he eats of that of which ye eat, and drinks of what ye drink.
TransliterationWala-in ataAAtum basharan mithlakuminnakum ithan lakhasiroon
Sahih InternationalAnd if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.
PickthallIf ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers.
Yusuf Ali"If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost.
TransliterationAyaAAidukum annakum itha mittumwakuntum turaban waAAithaman annakummukhrajoon
Sahih InternationalDoes he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]?
PickthallDoth he promise you that you, when ye are dead and have become dust and bones, will (again) be brought forth?
Yusuf Ali"Does he promise that when ye die and become dust and bones, ye shall be brought forth (again)?
TransliterationHayhata hayhata limatooAAadoon
Sahih InternationalHow far, how far, is that which you are promised.
PickthallBegone, begone, with that which ye are promised!
Yusuf Ali"Far, very far is that which ye are promised!
TransliterationIn hiya illa hayatunaaddunya namootu wanahya wamanahnu bimabAAootheen
Sahih InternationalLife is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected.
PickthallThere is naught but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we shall not be raised (again).
Yusuf Ali"There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again!
TransliterationIn huwa illa rajulun iftaraAAala Allahi kathiban wama nahnulahu bimu/mineen
Sahih InternationalHe is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah , and we will not believe him."
PickthallHe is only a man who hath invented a lie about Allah. We are not going to put faith in him.
Yusuf Ali"He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!"
TransliterationQala rabbi onsurnee bimakaththaboon
Sahih InternationalHe said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."
PickthallHe said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me.
Yusuf Ali(The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood."
TransliterationQala AAamma qaleelin layusbihunnanadimeen
Sahih International[ Allah ] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful."
PickthallHe said: In a little while they surely will become repentant.
Yusuf Ali(Allah) said: "In but a little while, they are sure to be sorry!"
TransliterationFaakhathat-humu assayhatubilhaqqi fajaAAalnahum ghuthaanfabuAAdan lilqawmi aththalimeen
Sahih InternationalSo the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.
PickthallSo the (Awful) Cry overtook them rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far removal for wrongdoing folk!
Yusuf AliThen the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong!
TransliterationThumma ansha/na min baAAdihimquroonan akhareen
Sahih InternationalThen We produced after them other generations.
PickthallThen after them We brought forth other generations.
Yusuf AliThen We raised after them other generations.
TransliterationMa tasbiqu min ommatin ajalahawama yasta/khiroon
Sahih InternationalNo nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter].
PickthallNo nation can outstrip its term, nor yet postpone it.
Yusuf AliNo people can hasten their term, nor can they delay (it).
TransliterationThumma arsalna rusulana tatrakulla ma jaa ommatan rasooluha kaththaboohufaatbaAAna baAAdahum baAAdan wajaAAalnahumahadeetha fabuAAdan liqawmin la yu/minoon
Sahih InternationalThen We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe.
PickthallThen We sent our messengers one after another. Whenever its messenger came unto a nation they denied him; so We caused them to follow one another (to disaster) and We made them bywords. A far removal for folk who believe not!
Yusuf AliThen sent We our messengers in succession: every time there came to a people their messenger, they accused him of falsehood: so We made them follow each other (in punishment): We made them as a tale (that is told): So away with a people that will not believe!
TransliterationThumma arsalna moosa waakhahuharoona bi-ayatina wasultaninmubeen
Sahih InternationalThen We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority
PickthallThen We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our tokens and a clear warrant
Yusuf AliThen We sent Moses and his brother Aaron, with Our Signs and authority manifest,
TransliterationIla firAAawna wamala-ihi fastakbaroowakanoo qawman AAaleen
Sahih InternationalTo Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people.
PickthallUnto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk.
Yusuf AliTo Pharaoh and his Chiefs: But these behaved insolently: they were an arrogant people.
TransliterationFaqaloo anu/minu libasharayni mithlinawaqawmuhuma lana AAabidoon
Sahih InternationalThey said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?"
PickthallAnd they said: Shall we put faith in two mortals like ourselves, and whose folk are servile unto us?
Yusuf AliThey said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!"
TransliterationFakaththaboohuma fakanoomina almuhlakeen
Sahih InternationalSo they denied them and were of those destroyed.
PickthallSo they denied them, and became of those who were destroyed.
Yusuf AliSo they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed.
TransliterationWalaqad atayna moosaalkitaba laAAallahum yahtadoon
Sahih InternationalAnd We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided.
PickthallAnd We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright.
Yusuf AliAnd We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance.
TransliterationWajaAAalna ibna maryama waommahu ayatanwaawaynahuma ila rabwatin thatiqararin wamaAAeen
Sahih InternationalAnd We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water.
PickthallAnd We made the son of Mary and his mother a portent, and We gave them refuge on a height, a place of flocks and watersprings.
Yusuf AliAnd We made the son of Mary and his mother as a Sign: We gave them both shelter on high ground, affording rest and security and furnished with springs.
TransliterationYa ayyuha arrusulukuloo mina attayyibati waAAmaloo salihaninnee bima taAAmaloona AAaleem
Sahih International[ Allah said], "O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed, I, of what you do, am Knowing.
PickthallO ye messengers! Eat of the good things, and do right. Lo! I am Aware of what ye do.
Yusuf AliO ye messengers! enjoy (all) things good and pure, and work righteousness: for I am well-acquainted with (all) that ye do.
TransliterationWa-inna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatanwaana rabbukum fattaqoon
Sahih InternationalAnd indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me."
PickthallAnd lo! this your religion is one religion and I am your Lord, so keep your duty unto Me.
Yusuf AliAnd verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood, and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me (and no other).
TransliterationFataqattaAAoo amrahum baynahumzuburan kullu hizbin bima ladayhim farihoon
Sahih InternationalBut the people divided their religion among them into sects - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing.
PickthallBut they (mankind) have broken their religion among them into sects, each group rejoicing in its tenets.
Yusuf AliBut people have cut off their affair (of unity), between them, into sects: each party rejoices in that which is with itself.
TransliterationFatharhum fee ghamratihim hattaheen
Sahih InternationalSo leave them in their confusion for a time.
PickthallSo leave them in their error till a time.
Yusuf AliBut leave them in their confused ignorance for a time.
TransliterationAyahsaboona annama numidduhumbihi min malin wabaneen
Sahih InternationalDo they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children
PickthallThink they that in the wealth and sons wherewith We provide them
Yusuf AliDo they think that because We have granted them abundance of wealth and sons,
TransliterationNusariAAu lahum fee alkhayratibal la yashAAuroon
Sahih InternationalIs [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive.
PickthallWe hasten unto them with good things? Nay, but they perceive not.
Yusuf AliWe would hasten them on in every good? Nay, they do not understand.
TransliterationInna allatheena hum min khashyatirabbihim mushfiqoon
Sahih InternationalIndeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord
PickthallLo! those who go in awe for fear of their Lord.
Yusuf AliVerily those who live in awe for fear of their Lord;
TransliterationWallatheena hum bi-ayatirabbihim yu/minoon
Sahih InternationalAnd they who believe in the signs of their Lord
PickthallAnd those who believe in the revelations of their Lord,
Yusuf AliThose who believe in the Signs of their Lord;
TransliterationWallatheena hum birabbihim layushrikoon
Sahih InternationalAnd they who do not associate anything with their Lord
PickthallAnd those who ascribe not partners unto their Lord,
Yusuf AliThose who join not (in worship) partners with their Lord;
TransliterationWallatheena yu/toona maataw waquloobuhum wajilatun annahum ila rabbihim rajiAAoon
Sahih InternationalAnd they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord -
PickthallAnd those who give that which they give with hearts afraid because they are about to return unto their Lord,
Yusuf AliAnd those who dispense their charity with their hearts full of fear, because they will return to their Lord;-
TransliterationOla-ika yusariAAoona feealkhayrati wahum laha sabiqoon
Sahih InternationalIt is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein.
PickthallThese race for the good things, and they shall win them in the race.
Yusuf AliIt is these who hasten in every good work, and these who are foremost in them.
TransliterationWala nukallifu nafsan illawusAAaha waladayna kitabun yantiqu bilhaqqiwahum la yuthlamoon
Sahih InternationalAnd We charge no soul except [with that within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged.
PickthallAnd we task not any soul beyond its scope, and with Us is a Record which speaketh the truth, and they will not be wronged.
Yusuf AliOn no soul do We place a burden greater than it can bear: before Us is a record which clearly shows the truth: they will never be wronged.
TransliterationBal quloobuhum fee ghamratin min hathawalahum aAAmalun min dooni thalika hum lahaAAamiloon
Sahih InternationalBut their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides disbelief which they are doing,
PickthallNay, but their hearts are in ignorance of this (Qur'an), and they have other works, besides, which they are doing;
Yusuf AliBut their hearts are in confused ignorance of this; and there are, besides that, deeds of theirs, which they will (continue) to do,-
TransliterationHatta itha akhathnamutrafeehim bilAAathabi itha hum yaj-aroon
Sahih InternationalUntil when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, at once they are crying [to Allah ] for help.
PickthallTill when We grasp their luxurious ones with the punishment, behold! they supplicate.
Yusuf AliUntil, when We seize in Punishment those of them who received the good things of this world, behold, they will groan in supplication!
TransliterationLa taj-aroo alyawma innakum minnala tunsaroon
Sahih InternationalDo not cry out today. Indeed, by Us you will not be helped.
PickthallSupplicate not this day! Assuredly ye will not be helped by Us.
Yusuf Ali(It will be said): "Groan not in supplication this day: for ye shall certainly not be helped by Us.
TransliterationQad kanat ayatee tutlaAAalaykum fakuntum AAala aAAqabikum tankisoon
Sahih InternationalMy verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels
PickthallMy revelations were recited unto you, but ye used to turn back on your heels,
Yusuf Ali"My Signs used to be rehearsed to you, but ye used to turn back on your heels-
TransliterationMustakbireena bihi samiran tahjuroon
Sahih InternationalIn arrogance regarding it, conversing by night, speaking evil.
PickthallIn scorn thereof. Nightly did ye rave together.
Yusuf Ali"In arrogance: talking nonsense about the (Qur'an), like one telling fables by night."
TransliterationAfalam yaddabbaroo alqawla am jaahumma lam ya/ti abaahumu al-awwaleen
Sahih InternationalThen have they not reflected over the Qur'an, or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers?
PickthallHave they not pondered the Word, or hath that come unto them which came not unto their fathers of old?
Yusuf AliDo they not ponder over the Word (of Allah), or has anything (new) come to them that did not come to their fathers of old?
TransliterationAm lam yaAArifoo rasoolahum fahum lahumunkiroon
Sahih InternationalOr did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging?
PickthallOr know they not their messenger, and so reject him?
Yusuf AliOr do they not recognise their Messenger, that they deny him?
TransliterationAm yaqooloona bihi jinnatun bal jaahumbilhaqqi waaktharuhum lilhaqqi karihoon
Sahih InternationalOr do they say, "In him is madness?" Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse.
PickthallOr say they: There is a madness in him? Nay, but he bringeth them the Truth; and most of them are haters of the Truth.
Yusuf AliOr do they say, "He is possessed"? Nay, he has brought them the Truth, but most of them hate the Truth.
TransliterationWalawi ittabaAAa alhaqqu ahwaahumlafasadati assamawatu wal-arduwaman feehinna bal ataynahum bithikrihim fahum AAanthikrihim muAAridoon
Sahih InternationalBut if the Truth had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined. Rather, We have brought them their message, but they, from their message, are turning away.
PickthallAnd if the Truth had followed their desires, verily the heavens and the earth and whosoever is therein had been corrupted. Nay, We have brought them their Reminder, but from their Reminder they now turn away.
Yusuf AliIf the Truth had been in accord with their desires, truly the heavens and the earth, and all beings therein would have been in confusion and corruption! Nay, We have sent them their admonition, but they turn away from their admonition.
TransliterationAm tas-aluhum kharjan fakharajurabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru arraziqeen
Sahih InternationalOr do you, [O Muhammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers.
PickthallOr dost thou ask of them (O Muhammad) any tribute? But the bounty of thy Lord is better, for He is Best of all who make provision.
Yusuf AliOr is it that thou askest them for some recompense? But the recompense of thy Lord is best: He is the Best of those who give sustenance.
TransliterationWa-innaka latadAAoohum ila siratinmustaqeem
Sahih InternationalAnd indeed, you invite them to a straight path.
PickthallAnd lo! thou summonest them indeed unto a straight path.
Yusuf AliBut verily thou callest them to the Straight Way;
TransliterationWa-inna allatheena layu/minoona bil-akhirati AAani assiratilanakiboon
Sahih InternationalBut indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path.
PickthallAnd lo! those who believe not in the Hereafter are indeed astray from the path.
Yusuf AliAnd verily those who believe not in the Hereafter are deviating from that Way.
TransliterationWalaw rahimnahum wakashafnama bihim min durrin lalajjoo fee tughyanihimyaAAmahoon
Sahih InternationalAnd even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.
PickthallThough We had mercy on them and relieved them of the harm afflicting them, they still would wander blindly on in their contumacy.
Yusuf AliIf We had mercy on them and removed the distress which is on them, they would obstinately persist in their transgression, wandering in distraction to and fro.
TransliterationWalaqad akhathnahum bilAAathabifama istakanoo lirabbihim wama yatadarraAAoon
Sahih InternationalAnd We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]
PickthallAlready have We grasped them with punishment, but they humble not themselves unto their Lord, nor do they pray,
Yusuf AliWe inflicted Punishment on them, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor do they submissively entreat (Him)!-
TransliterationHatta itha fatahnaAAalayhim baban tha AAathabin shadeedin ithahum feehi mublisoon
Sahih InternationalUntil when We have opened before them a door of severe punishment, immediately they will be therein in despair.
PickthallUntil, when We open for them the gate of extreme punishment, behold! they are aghast thereat.
Yusuf AliUntil We open on them a gate leading to a severe Punishment: then Lo! they will be plunged in despair therein!
TransliterationWahuwa allathee anshaa lakumu assamAAawal-absara wal-af-idata qaleelan matashkuroon
Sahih InternationalAnd it is He who produced for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful.
PickthallHe it is Who hath created for you ears and eyes and hearts. Small thanks give ye!
Yusuf AliIt is He Who has created for you (the faculties of) hearing, sight, feeling and understanding: little thanks it is ye give!
TransliterationWahuwa allathee tharaakum feeal-ardi wa-ilayhi tuhsharoon
Sahih InternationalAnd it is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.
PickthallAnd He it is Who hath sown you broadcast in the earth, and unto Him ye will be gathered.
Yusuf AliAnd He has multiplied you through the earth, and to Him shall ye be gathered back.
TransliterationWahuwa allathee yuhyeewayumeetu walahu ikhtilafu allayli wannahariafala taAAqiloon
Sahih InternationalAnd it is He who gives life and causes death, and His is the alternation of the night and the day. Then will you not reason?
PickthallAnd He it is Who giveth life and causeth death, and His is the difference of night and day. Have ye then no sense?
Yusuf AliIt is He Who gives life and death, and to Him (is due) the alternation of Night and Day: will ye not then understand?
TransliterationBal qaloo mithla ma qalaal-awwaloon
Sahih InternationalRather, they say like what the former peoples said.
PickthallNay, but they say the like of that which said the men of old;
Yusuf AliOn the contrary they say things similar to what the ancients said.
TransliterationQaloo a-itha mitnawakunna turaban waAAithamana-inna lamabAAoothoon
Sahih InternationalThey said, "When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
PickthallThey say: When we are dead and have become (mere) dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again?
Yusuf AliThey say: "What! when we die and become dust and bones, could we really be raised up again?
TransliterationLaqad wuAAidna nahnu waabaonahatha min qablu in hatha illa asateerual-awwaleen
Sahih InternationalWe have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before; this is not but legends of the former peoples."
PickthallWe were already promised this, we and our forefathers. Lo! this is naught but fables of the men of old.
Yusuf Ali"Such things have been promised to us and to our fathers before! they are nothing but tales of the ancients!"
TransliterationQul limani al-ardu waman feehain kuntum taAAlamoon
Sahih InternationalSay, [O Muhammad], "To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it, if you should know?"
PickthallSay: Unto Whom (belongeth) the earth and whosoever is therein, if ye have knowledge?
Yusuf AliSay: "To whom belong the earth and all beings therein? (say) if ye know!"
TransliterationSayaqooloona lillahi qul afalatathakkaroon
Sahih InternationalThey will say, "To Allah ." Say, "Then will you not remember?"
PickthallThey will say: Unto Allah. Say: Will ye not then remember?
Yusuf AliThey will say, "To Allah!" say: "Yet will ye not receive admonition?"
TransliterationQul man rabbu assamawatiassabAAi warabbu alAAarshi alAAatheem
Sahih InternationalSay, "Who is Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne?"
PickthallSay: Who is Lord of the seven heavens, and Lord of the Tremendous Throne?
Yusuf AliSay: "Who is the Lord of the seven heavens, and the Lord of the Throne (of Glory) Supreme?"
TransliterationSayaqooloona lillahi qul afalatattaqoon
Sahih InternationalThey will say, "[They belong] to Allah ." Say, "Then will you not fear Him?"
PickthallThey will say: Unto Allah (all that belongeth). Say: Will ye not then keep duty (unto Him)?
Yusuf AliThey will say, "(They belong) to Allah." Say: "Will ye not then be filled with awe?"
TransliterationQul man biyadihi malakootu kulli shay-inwahuwa yujeeru wala yujaru AAalayhi in kuntumtaAAlamoon
Sahih InternationalSay, "In whose hand is the realm of all things - and He protects while none can protect against Him - if you should know?"
PickthallSay: In Whose hand is the dominion over all things and He protecteth, while against Him there is no protection, if ye have knowledge?
Yusuf AliSay: "Who is it in whose hands is the governance of all things,- who protects (all), but is not protected (of any)? (say) if ye know."
TransliterationSayaqooloona lillahi qul faannatusharoon
Sahih InternationalThey will say, "[All belongs] to Allah ." Say, "Then how are you deluded?"
PickthallThey will say: Unto Allah (all that belongeth). Say: How then are ye bewitched?
Yusuf AliThey will say, "(It belongs) to Allah." Say: "Then how are ye deluded?"
TransliterationBal ataynahum bilhaqqiwa-innahum lakathiboon
Sahih InternationalRather, We have brought them the truth, and indeed they are liars.
PickthallNay, but We have brought them the Truth, and lo! they are liars.
Yusuf AliWe have sent them the Truth: but they indeed practise falsehood!
TransliterationMa ittakhatha Allahumin waladin wama kana maAAahu min ilahin ithanlathahaba kullu ilahin bima khalaqa walaAAalabaAAduhum AAala baAAdin subhana AllahiAAamma yasifoon
Sahih InternationalAllah has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have sought to overcome others. Exalted is Allah above what they describe [concerning Him].
PickthallAllah hath not chosen any son, nor is there any god along with Him; else would each god have assuredly championed that which he created, and some of them would assuredly have overcome others. Glorified be Allah above all that they allege.
Yusuf AliNo son did Allah beget, nor is there any god along with Him: (if there were many gods), behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have lorded it over others! Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the (sort of) things they attribute to Him!
TransliterationAAalimi alghaybi washshahadatifataAAala AAamma yushrikoon
Sahih International[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him].
PickthallKnower of the Invisible and the Visible! and Exalted be He over all that they ascribe as partners (unto Him)!
Yusuf AliHe knows what is hidden and what is open: too high is He for the partners they attribute to Him!
TransliterationQul rabbi imma turiyannee mayooAAadoon
Sahih InternationalSay, [O Muhammad], "My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,
PickthallSay: My Lord! If Thou shouldst show me that which they are promised.
Yusuf AliSay: "O my Lord! if Thou wilt show me (in my lifetime) that which they are warned against,-
TransliterationRabbi fala tajAAalnee fee alqawmi aththalimeen
Sahih InternationalMy Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
PickthallMy Lord! then set me not among the wrongdoing folk.
Yusuf Ali"Then, O my Lord! put me not amongst the people who do wrong!"
TransliterationWa-inna AAala an nuriyaka manaAAiduhum laqadiroon
Sahih InternationalAnd indeed, We are able to show you what We have promised them.
PickthallAnd verily We are Able to show thee that which We have promised them.
Yusuf AliAnd We are certainly able to show thee (in fulfilment) that against which they are warned.
TransliterationIdfaAA billatee hiya ahsanu assayyi-atanahnu aAAlamu bima yasifoon
Sahih InternationalRepel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe.
PickthallRepel evil with that which is better. We are Best Aware of that which they allege.
Yusuf AliRepel evil with that which is best: We are well acquainted with the things they say.
TransliterationWaqul rabbi aAAoothu bika min hamazatiashshayateen
Sahih InternationalAnd say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,
PickthallAnd say: My Lord! I seek refuge in Thee from suggestions of the evil ones,
Yusuf AliAnd say "O my Lord! I seek refuge with Thee from the suggestions of the Evil Ones.
TransliterationWaaAAoothu bika rabbi an yahduroon
Sahih InternationalAnd I seek refuge in You, my Lord , lest they be present with me."
PickthallAnd I seek refuge in Thee, my Lord, lest they be present with me,
Yusuf Ali"And I seek refuge with Thee O my Lord! lest they should come near me."
TransliterationHatta itha jaa ahadahumualmawtu qala rabbi irjiAAoon
Sahih International[For such is the state of the disbelievers], until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back
PickthallUntil, when death cometh unto one of them, he saith: My Lord! Send me back,
Yusuf Ali(In Falsehood will they be) Until, when death comes to one of them, he says: "O my Lord! send me back (to life),-
TransliterationLaAAallee aAAmalu salihanfeema taraktu kalla innaha kalimatun huwa qa-iluhawamin wara-ihim barzakhun ila yawmi yubAAathoon
Sahih InternationalThat I might do righteousness in that which I left behind." No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.
PickthallThat I may do right in that which I have left behind! But nay! It is but a word that he speaketh; and behind them is a barrier until the day when they are raised.
Yusuf Ali"In order that I may work righteousness in the things I neglected." - "By no means! It is but a word he says."- Before them is a Partition till the Day they are raised up.
TransliterationFa-itha nufikha fee assoorifala ansaba baynahum yawma-ithin walayatasaaloon
Sahih InternationalSo when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another.
PickthallAnd when the trumpet is blown there will be no kinship among them that day, nor will they ask of one another.
Yusuf AliThen when the Trumpet is blown, there will be no more relationships between them that Day, nor will one ask after another!
TransliterationFaman thaqulat mawazeenuhu faola-ikahumu almuflihoon
Sahih InternationalAnd those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful.
PickthallThen those whose scales are heavy, they are the successful.
Yusuf AliThen those whose balance (of good deeds) is heavy,- they will attain salvation:
TransliterationWaman khaffat mawazeenuhu faola-ikaallatheena khasiroo anfusahum fee jahannama khalidoon
Sahih InternationalBut those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally.
PickthallAnd those whose scales are light are those who lose their souls, in hell abiding.
Yusuf AliBut those whose balance is light, will be those who have lost their souls, in Hell will they abide.
TransliterationTalfahu wujoohahumu annaruwahum feeha kalihoon
Sahih InternationalThe Fire will sear their faces, and they therein will have taut smiles.
PickthallThe fire burneth their faces, and they are glum therein.
Yusuf AliThe Fire will burn their faces, and they will therein grin, with their lips displaced.
TransliterationAlam takun ayatee tutlaAAalaykum fakuntum biha tukaththiboon
Sahih International[It will be said]. "Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them?"
Pickthall(It will be said): Were not My revelations recited unto you, and then ye used to deny them?
Yusuf Ali"Were not My Signs rehearsed to you, and ye did but treat them as falsehood?"
TransliterationQaloo rabbana ghalabatAAalayna shiqwatuna wakunna qawman dalleen
Sahih InternationalThey will say, "Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray.
PickthallThey will say: Our Lord! Our evil fortune conquered us, and we were erring folk.
Yusuf AliThey will say: "our Lord! Our misfortune overwhelmed us, and we became a people astray!
TransliterationRabbana akhrijna minhafa-in AAudna fa-inna thalimoon
Sahih InternationalOur Lord, remove us from it, and if we were to return [to evil], we would indeed be wrongdoers."
PickthallOur Lord! Oh, bring us forth from hence! If we return (to evil) then indeed we shall be wrong-doers.
Yusuf Ali"Our Lord! bring us out of this: if ever we return (to Evil), then shall we be wrong-doers indeed!"
TransliterationQala ikhsaoo feeha walatukallimoon
Sahih InternationalHe will say, "Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me.
PickthallHe saith: Begone therein, and speak not unto Me.
Yusuf AliHe will say: "Be ye driven into it (with ignominy)! And speak ye not to Me!
TransliterationInnahu kana fareequn min AAibadeeyaqooloona rabbana amanna faghfirlana warhamna waanta khayru arrahimeen
Sahih InternationalIndeed, there was a party of My servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.'
PickthallLo! there was a party of My slaves who said: Our Lord! We believe, therefor forgive us and have mercy on us for Thou art Best of all who show mercy;
Yusuf Ali"A part of My servants there was, who used to pray 'our Lord! we believe; then do Thou forgive us, and have mercy upon us: For Thou art the Best of those who show mercy!"
TransliterationFattakhathtumoohumsikhriyyan hatta ansawkum thikree wakuntumminhum tadhakoon
Sahih InternationalBut you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them.
PickthallBut ye chose them for a laughing-stock until they caused you to forget remembrance of Me, while ye laughed at them.
Yusuf Ali"But ye treated them with ridicule, so much so that (ridicule of) them made you forget My Message while ye were laughing at them!
TransliterationInnee jazaytuhumu alyawma bima sabarooannahum humu alfa-izoon
Sahih InternationalIndeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance - that they are the attainers [of success]."
PickthallLo! I have rewarded them this day forasmuch as they were steadfast in that they, even they, are the triumphant.
Yusuf Ali"I have rewarded them this Day for their patience and constancy: they are indeed the ones that have achieved Bliss..."
TransliterationQala kam labithtum fee al-ardiAAadada sineen
Sahih International[ Allah ] will say, "How long did you remain on earth in number of years?"
PickthallHe will say: How long tarried ye in the earth, counting by years?
Yusuf AliHe will say: "What number of years did ye stay on earth?"
TransliterationQaloo labithna yawman aw baAAdayawmin fas-ali alAAaddeen
Sahih InternationalThey will say, "We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate."
PickthallThey will say: We tarried by a day or part of a day. Ask of those who keep count!
Yusuf AliThey will say: "We stayed a day or part of a day: but ask those who keep account."
TransliterationQala in labithtum illaqaleelan law annakum kuntum taAAlamoon
Sahih InternationalHe will say, "You stayed not but a little - if only you had known.
PickthallHe will say: Ye tarried but a little if ye only knew.
Yusuf AliHe will say: "Ye stayed not but a little,- if ye had only known!
TransliterationAfahasibtum annama khalaqnakumAAabathan waannakum ilayna la turjaAAoon
Sahih InternationalThen did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?"
PickthallDeemed ye then that We had created you for naught, and that ye would not be returned unto Us?
Yusuf Ali"Did ye then think that We had created you in jest, and that ye would not be brought back to Us (for account)?"
TransliterationFataAAala Allahualmaliku alhaqqu la ilaha illa huwarabbu alAAarshi alkareem
Sahih InternationalSo exalted is Allah , the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.
PickthallNow Allah be Exalted, the True King! There is no Allah save Him, the Lord of the Throne of Grace.
Yusuf AliTherefore exalted be Allah, the King, the Reality: there is no god but He, the Lord of the Throne of Honour!
TransliterationWaman yadAAu maAAa Allahi ilahanakhara la burhana lahu bihi fa-innamahisabuhu AAinda rabbihi innahu la yuflihualkafiroon
Sahih InternationalAnd whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
PickthallHe who crieth unto any other god along with Allah hath no proof thereof. His reckoning is only with his Lord. Lo! disbelievers will not be successful.
Yusuf AliIf anyone invokes, besides Allah, Any other god, he has no authority therefor; and his reckoning will be only with his Lord! and verily the Unbelievers will fail to win through!
TransliterationWaqul rabbi ighfir warhamwaanta khayru arrahimeen
Sahih InternationalAnd, [O Muhammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful."
PickthallAnd (O Muhammad) say: My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for Thou art Best of all who show mercy.
Yusuf AliSo say: "O my Lord! grant Thou forgiveness and mercy for Thou art the Best of those who show mercy!"
