Sahih InternationalAs guidance and mercy for the doers of good
PickthallA guidance and a mercy for the good,
Yusuf AliA Guide and a Mercy to the Doers of Good,-
TransliterationAllatheena yuqeemoona assalatawayu/toona azzakata wahum bil-akhiratihum yooqinoon
Sahih InternationalWho establish prayer and give zakah, and they, of the Hereafter, are certain [in faith].
PickthallThose who establish worship and pay the poor-due and have sure faith in the Hereafter.
Yusuf AliThose who establish regular Prayer, and give regular Charity, and have (in their hearts) the assurance of the Hereafter.
TransliterationOla-ika AAala hudan minrabbihim waola-ika humu almuflihoon
Sahih InternationalThose are on [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.
PickthallSuch have guidance from their Lord. Such are the successful.
Yusuf AliThese are on (true) guidance from their Lord: and these are the ones who will prosper.
TransliterationWamina annasi man yashtareelahwa alhadeethi liyudilla AAan sabeeli Allahibighayri AAilmin wayattakhithaha huzuwan ola-ikalahum AAathabun muheen
Sahih InternationalAnd of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.
PickthallAnd of mankind is he who payeth for mere pastime of discourse, that he may mislead from Allah's way without knowledge, and maketh it the butt of mockery. For such there is a shameful doom.
Yusuf AliBut there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah and throw ridicule (on the Path): for such there will be a Humiliating Penalty.
TransliterationWa-itha tutla AAalayhi ayatunawalla mustakbiran kaan lam yasmaAAha kaanna fee othunayhiwaqran fabashshirhu biAAathabin aleem
Sahih InternationalAnd when our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was in his ears deafness. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.
PickthallAnd when Our revelations are recited unto him he turneth away in pride as if he heard them not, as if there were a deafness in his ears. So give him tidings of a painful doom.
Yusuf AliWhen Our Signs are rehearsed to such a one, he turns away in arrogance, as if he heard them not, as if there were deafness in both his ears: announce to him a grievous Penalty.
TransliterationInna allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati lahum jannatuannaAAeem
Sahih InternationalIndeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds - for them are the Gardens of Pleasure.
PickthallLo! those who believe and do good works, for them are the gardens of delight,
Yusuf AliFor those who believe and work righteous deeds, there will be Gardens of Bliss,-
TransliterationKhalideena feeha waAAda Allahihaqqan wahuwa alAAazeezu alhakeem
Sahih InternationalWherein they abide eternally; [it is] the promise of Allah [which is] truth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
PickthallWherein they will abide. It is a promise of Allah in truth. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
Yusuf AliTo dwell therein. The promise of Allah is true: and He is Exalted in Power, Wise.
TransliterationKhalaqa assamawatibighayri AAamadin tarawnaha waalqa fee al-ardirawasiya an tameeda bikum wabaththa feeha min kullidabbatin waanzalna mina assama-i maanfaanbatna feeha min kulli zawjin kareem
Sahih InternationalHe created the heavens without pillars that you see and has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with you, and dispersed therein from every creature. And We sent down rain from the sky and made grow therein [plants] of every noble kind.
PickthallHe hath created the heavens without supports that ye can see, and hath cast into the earth firm hills, so that it quake not with you; and He hath dispersed therein all kinds of beasts. And We send down water from the sky and We cause (plants) of every goodly kind to grow therein.
Yusuf AliHe created the heavens without any pillars that ye can see; He set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you; and He scattered through it beasts of all kinds. We send down rain from the sky, and produce on the earth every kind of noble creature, in pairs.
TransliterationHatha khalqu Allahi faarooneematha khalaqa allatheena min doonihi bali aththalimoonafee dalalin mubeen
Sahih InternationalThis is the creation of Allah . So show Me what those other than Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are in clear error.
PickthallThis is the Creation of Allah. Now show me that which those (ye worship) beside Him have created. Nay, but the wrong-doers are in error manifest!
Yusuf AliSuch is the Creation of Allah: now show Me what is there that others besides Him have created: nay, but the Transgressors are in manifest error.
TransliterationWalaqad atayna luqmanaalhikmata ani oshkur lillahi waman yashkur fa-innamayashkuru linafsihi waman kafara fa-inna Allaha ghaniyyun hameed
Sahih InternationalAnd We had certainly given Luqman wisdom [and said], "Be grateful to Allah ." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
PickthallAnd verily We gave Luqman wisdom, saying: Give thanks unto Allah; and whosoever giveth thanks, he giveth thanks for (the good of) his soul. And whosoever refuseth - Lo! Allah is Absolute, Owner of Praise.
Yusuf Aliwe bestowed (in the past) Wisdom on Luqman: "Show (thy) gratitude to Allah." Any who is (so) grateful does so to the profit of his own soul: but if any is ungrateful, verily Allah is free of all wants, Worthy of all praise.
TransliterationWa-ith qala luqmanu libnihiwahuwa yaAAithuhu ya bunayya latushrik billahi inna ashshirka lathulmunAAatheem
Sahih InternationalAnd [mention, O Muhammad], when Luqman said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allah . Indeed, association [with him] is great injustice."
PickthallAnd (remember) when Luqman said unto his son, when he was exhorting him: O my dear son! Ascribe no partners unto Allah. Lo! to ascribe partners (unto Him) is a tremendous wrong -
Yusuf AliBehold, Luqman said to his son by way of instruction: "O my son! join not in worship (others) with Allah: for false worship is indeed the highest wrong-doing."
TransliterationWawassayna al-insanabiwalidayhi hamalat-hu ommuhu wahnan AAalawahnin wafisaluhu fee AAamayni ani oshkur lee waliwalidaykailayya almaseer
Sahih InternationalAnd We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.
PickthallAnd We have enjoined upon man concerning his partners - His mother beareth him in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years - Give thanks unto Me and unto thy parents. Unto Me is the journeying.
Yusuf AliAnd We have enjoined on man (to be good) to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him, and in years twain was his weaning: (hear the command), "Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents: to Me is (thy final) Goal.
TransliterationWa-in jahadaka AAala antushrika bee ma laysa laka bihi AAilmun fala tutiAAhumawasahibhuma fee addunya maAAroofanwattabiAA sabeela man anaba ilayya thumma ilayyamarjiAAukum faonabbi-okum bima kuntum taAAmaloon
Sahih InternationalBut if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
PickthallBut if they strive with thee to make thee ascribe unto Me as partner that of which thou hast no knowledge, then obey them not. Consort with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him who repenteth unto Me. Then unto Me will be your return, and I shall tell you what ye used to do -
Yusuf Ali"But if they strive to make thee join in worship with Me things of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not; yet bear them company in this life with justice (and consideration), and follow the way of those who turn to me (in love): in the end the return of you all is to Me, and I will tell you the truth (and meaning) of all that ye did."
TransliterationYa bunayya innaha in takumithqala habbatin min khardalin fatakun fee sakhratinaw fee assamawati aw fee al-ardiya/ti biha Allahu inna Allaha lateefunkhabeer
Sahih International[And Luqman said], "O my son, indeed if wrong should be the weight of a mustard seed and should be within a rock or [anywhere] in the heavens or in the earth, Allah will bring it forth. Indeed, Allah is Subtle and Acquainted.
PickthallO my dear son! Lo! though it be but the weight of a grain of mustard-seed, and though it be in a rock, or in the heavens, or in the earth, Allah will bring it forth. Lo! Allah is Subtile, Aware.
Yusuf Ali"O my son!" (said Luqman), "If there be (but) the weight of a mustard-seed and it were (hidden) in a rock, or (anywhere) in the heavens or on earth, Allah will bring it forth: for Allah understands the finest mysteries, (and) is well-acquainted (with them).
TransliterationYa bunayya aqimi assalatawa/mur bilmaAAroofi wanha AAani almunkari wasbirAAala ma asabaka inna thalika minAAazmi al-omoor
Sahih InternationalO my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring] determination.
PickthallO my dear son! Establish worship and enjoin kindness and forbid iniquity, and persevere whatever may befall thee. Lo! that is of the steadfast heart of things.
Yusuf Ali"O my son! establish regular prayer, enjoin what is just, and forbid what is wrong: and bear with patient constancy whatever betide thee; for this is firmness (of purpose) in (the conduct of) affairs.
TransliterationWala tusaAAAAir khaddaka linnasiwala tamshi fee al-ardi marahan inna Allahala yuhibbu kulla mukhtalin fakhoor
Sahih InternationalAnd do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.
PickthallTurn not thy cheek in scorn toward folk, nor walk with pertness in the land. Lo! Allah loveth not each braggart boaster.
Yusuf Ali"And swell not thy cheek (for pride) at men, nor walk in insolence through the earth; for Allah loveth not any arrogant boaster.
TransliterationWaqsid fee mashyika waghdudmin sawtika inna ankara al-aswati lasawtualhameer
Sahih InternationalAnd be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys."
PickthallBe modest in thy bearing and subdue thy voice. Lo! the harshest of all voices is the voice of the ass.
Yusuf Ali"And be moderate in thy pace, and lower thy voice; for the harshest of sounds without doubt is the braying of the ass."
TransliterationAlam taraw anna Allaha sakhkharalakum ma fee assamawati wamafee al-ardi waasbagha AAalaykum niAAamahu thahiratanwabatinatan wamina annasi man yujadilufee Allahi bighayri AAilmin wala hudan walakitabin muneer
Sahih InternationalDo you not see that Allah has made subject to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and amply bestowed upon you His favors, [both] apparent and unapparent? But of the people is he who disputes about Allah without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening Book [from Him].
PickthallSee ye not how Allah hath made serviceable unto you whatsoever is in the skies and whatsoever is in the earth and hath loaded you with His favours both without and within? Yet of mankind is he who disputeth concerning Allah, without knowledge or guidance or a scripture giving light.
Yusuf AliDo ye not see that Allah has subjected to your (use) all things in the heavens and on earth, and has made his bounties flow to you in exceeding measure, (both) seen and unseen? Yet there are among men those who dispute about Allah, without knowledge and without guidance, and without a Book to enlighten them!
TransliterationWa-itha qeela lahumu ittabiAAoo maanzala Allahu qaloo bal nattabiAAu ma wajadnaAAalayhi abaana awa law kana ashshaytanuyadAAoohum ila AAathabi assaAAeer
Sahih InternationalAnd when it is said to them, "Follow what Allah has revealed," they say, "Rather, we will follow that upon which we found our fathers." Even if Satan was inviting them to the punishment of the Blaze?
PickthallAnd if it be said unto them: Follow that which Allah hath revealed, they say: Nay, but we follow that wherein we found our fathers. What! Even though the devil were inviting them unto the doom of flame?
Yusuf AliWhen they are told to follow the (Revelation) that Allah has sent down, they say: "Nay, we shall follow the ways that we found our fathers (following). "What! even if it is Satan beckoning them to the Penalty of the (Blazing) Fire?
TransliterationWaman yuslim wajhahu ila Allahiwahuwa muhsinun faqadi istamsaka bilAAurwatialwuthqa wa-ila Allahi AAaqibatual-omoor
Sahih InternationalAnd whoever submits his face to Allah while he is a doer of good - then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allah will be the outcome of [all] matters.
PickthallWhosoever surrendereth his purpose to Allah while doing good, he verily hath grasped the firm hand-hold. Unto Allah belongeth the sequel of all things.
Yusuf AliWhoever submits his whole self to Allah, and is a doer of good, has grasped indeed the most trustworthy hand-hold: and with Allah rests the End and Decision of (all) affairs.
TransliterationWaman kafara fala yahzunkakufruhu ilayna marjiAAuhum fanunabbi-ohum bimaAAamiloo inna Allaha AAaleemun bithati assudoor
Sahih InternationalAnd whoever has disbelieved - let not his disbelief grieve you. To Us is their return, and We will inform them of what they did. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts.
PickthallAnd whosoever disbelieveth, let not his disbelief afflict thee (O Muhammad). Unto Us is their return, and We shall tell them what they did. Lo! Allah is Aware of what is in the breasts (of men).
Yusuf AliBut if any reject Faith, let not his rejection grieve thee: to Us is their return, and We shall tell them the truth of their deeds: for Allah knows well all that is in (men's) hearts.
TransliterationNumattiAAuhum qaleelan thumma nadtarruhumila AAathabin ghaleeth
Sahih InternationalWe grant them enjoyment for a little; then We will force them to a massive punishment.
PickthallWe give them comfort for a little, and then We drive them to a heavy doom.
Yusuf AliWe grant them their pleasure for a little while: in the end shall We drive them to a chastisement unrelenting.
TransliterationWala-in saaltahum man khalaqa assamawatiwal-arda layaqoolunna Allahu quli alhamdulillahi bal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoon
Sahih InternationalAnd if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth?" they would surely say, " Allah ." Say, "[All] praise is [due] to Allah "; but most of them do not know.
PickthallIf thou shouldst ask them: Who created the heavens and the earth? they would answer: Allah. Say: Praise be to Allah! But most of them know not.
Yusuf AliIf thou ask them, who it is that created the heavens and the earth. They will certainly say, "Allah". Say: "Praise be to Allah!" But most of them understand not.
TransliterationLillahi ma fee assamawatiwal-ardi inna Allaha huwa alghaniyyu alhameed
Sahih InternationalTo Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. Indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.
PickthallUnto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth. Lo! Allah, He is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise.
Yusuf AliTo Allah belong all things in heaven and earth: verily Allah is He (that is) free of all wants, worthy of all praise.
TransliterationWalaw annama fee al-ardi minshajaratin aqlamun walbahru yamudduhu minbaAAdihi sabAAatu abhurin ma nafidat kalimatuAllahi inna Allaha AAazeezun hakeem
Sahih InternationalAnd if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and the sea [was ink], replenished thereafter by seven [more] seas, the words of Allah would not be exhausted. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.
PickthallAnd if all the trees in the earth were pens, and the sea, with seven more seas to help it, (were ink), the words of Allah could not be exhausted. Lo! Allah is Mighty, Wise.
Yusuf AliAnd if all the trees on earth were pens and the ocean (were ink), with seven oceans behind it to add to its (supply), yet would not the words of Allah be exhausted (in the writing): for Allah is Exalted in Power, full of Wisdom.
TransliterationMa khalqukum wala baAAthukumilla kanafsin wahidatin inna AllahasameeAAun baseer
Sahih InternationalYour creation and your resurrection will not be but as that of a single soul. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing.
PickthallYour creation and your raising (from the dead) are only as (the creation and the raising of) a single soul. Lo! Allah is Hearer, Knower.
Yusuf AliAnd your creation or your resurrection is in no wise but as an individual soul: for Allah is He Who hears and sees (all things).
TransliterationAlam tara anna Allaha yooliju allaylafee annahari wayooliju annahara feeallayli wasakhkhara ashshamsa walqamara kullunyajree ila ajalin musamman waanna Allaha bimataAAmaloona khabeer
Sahih InternationalDo you not see that Allah causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that Allah , with whatever you do, is Acquainted?
PickthallHast thou not seen how Allah causeth the night to pass into the day and causeth the day to pass into the night, and hath subdued the sun and the moon (to do their work), each running unto an appointed term; and that Allah is Informed of what ye do?
Yusuf AliSeest thou not that Allah merges Night into Day and he merges Day into Night; that He has subjected the sun, and the moon (to his Law), each running its course for a term appointed; and that Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do?
TransliterationThalika bi-anna Allaha huwa alhaqquwaanna ma yadAAoona min doonihi albatilu waanna Allahahuwa alAAaliyyu alkabeer
Sahih InternationalThat is because Allah is the Truth, and that what they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Most High, the Grand.
PickthallThat (is so) because Allah, He is the True, and that which they invoke beside Him is the False, and because Allah, He is the Sublime, the Great.
Yusuf AliThat is because Allah is the (only) Reality, and because whatever else they invoke besides Him is Falsehood; and because Allah,- He is the Most High, Most Great.
TransliterationAlam tara anna alfulka tajree fee albahribiniAAmati Allahi liyuriyakum min ayatihiinna fee thalika laayatin likulli sabbarinshakoor
Sahih InternationalDo you not see that ships sail through the sea by the favor of Allah that He may show you of His signs? Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
PickthallHast thou not seen how the ships glide on the sea by Allah's grace, that He may show you of His wonders? Lo! therein indeed are portents for every steadfast, grateful (heart).
Yusuf AliSeest thou not that the ships sail through the ocean by the Grace of Allah?- that He may show you of His Signs? Verily in this are Signs for all who constantly persevere and give thanks.
TransliterationWa-itha ghashiyahum mawjun kaththulalidaAAawoo Allaha mukhliseena lahu addeenafalamma najjahum ila albarri faminhum muqtasidunwama yajhadu bi-ayatina illakullu khattarin kafoor
Sahih InternationalAnd when waves come over them like canopies, they supplicate Allah , sincere to Him in religion. But when He delivers them to the land, there are [some] of them who are moderate [in faith]. And none rejects Our signs except everyone treacherous and ungrateful.
PickthallAnd if a wave enshroudeth them like awnings, they cry unto Allah, making their faith pure for Him only. But when He bringeth them safe to land, some of them compromise. None denieth Our signs save every traitor ingrate.
Yusuf AliWhen a wave covers them like the canopy (of clouds), they call to Allah, offering Him sincere devotion. But when He has delivered them safely to land, there are among them those that halt between (right and wrong). But none reject Our Signs except only a perfidious ungrateful (wretch)!
TransliterationYa ayyuha annasuittaqoo rabbakum wakhshaw yawman la yajzee walidunAAan waladihi wala mawloodun huwa jazin AAan walidihishay-an inna waAAda Allahi haqqun falataghurrannakumu alhayatu addunya walayaghurrannakum billahi algharoor
Sahih InternationalO mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allah by the Deceiver.
PickthallO mankind! Keep your duty to your Lord and fear a Day when the parent will not be able to avail the child in aught, nor the child to avail the parent. Lo! Allah's promise is the very truth. Let not the life of the world beguile you, nor let the deceiver beguile you, in regard to Allah.
Yusuf AliO mankind! do your duty to your Lord, and fear (the coming of) a Day when no father can avail aught for his son, nor a son avail aught for his father. Verily, the promise of Allah is true: let not then this present life deceive you, nor let the chief Deceiver deceive you about Allah.
TransliterationInna Allaha AAindahu AAilmu assaAAatiwayunazzilu alghaytha wayaAAlamu ma fee al-arhamiwama tadree nafsun matha taksibu ghadan wamatadree nafsun bi-ayyi ardin tamootu inna AllahaAAaleemun khabeer
Sahih InternationalIndeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.
PickthallLo! Allah! With Him is knowledge of the Hour. He sendeth down the rain, and knoweth that which is in the wombs. No soul knoweth what it will earn to-morrow, and no soul knoweth in what land it will die. Lo! Allah is Knower, Aware.
Yusuf AliVerily the knowledge of the Hour is with Allah (alone). It is He Who sends down rain, and He Who knows what is in the wombs. Nor does any one know what it is that he will earn on the morrow: Nor does any one know in what land he is to die. Verily with Allah is full knowledge and He is acquainted (with all things).
