Surah Aţ-Ţūr - سورة الطور
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Sahih InternationalBy the mount
PickthallBy the Mount,
Yusuf AliBy the Mount (of Revelation);
Sahih InternationalAnd [by] a Book inscribed
PickthallAnd a Scripture inscribed
Yusuf AliBy a Decree inscribed
TransliterationFee raqqin manshoor
Sahih InternationalIn parchment spread open
PickthallOn fine parchment unrolled,
Yusuf AliIn a Scroll unfolded;
Sahih InternationalAnd [by] the frequented House
PickthallAnd the House frequented,
Yusuf AliBy the much-frequented Fane;
Sahih InternationalAnd [by] the heaven raised high
PickthallAnd the roof exalted,
Yusuf AliBy the Canopy Raised High;
Sahih InternationalAnd [by] the sea filled [with fire],
PickthallAnd the sea kept filled,
Yusuf AliAnd by the Ocean filled with Swell;-
TransliterationInna AAathaba rabbika lawaqiAA
Sahih InternationalIndeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur.
PickthallLo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass;
Yusuf AliVerily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;-
TransliterationMa lahu min dafiAA
Sahih InternationalOf it there is no preventer.
PickthallThere is none that can ward it off.
Yusuf AliThere is none can avert it;-
TransliterationYawma tamooru assamao mawra
Sahih InternationalOn the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion
PickthallOn the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving,
Yusuf AliOn the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion.
TransliterationWataseeru aljibalu sayra
Sahih InternationalAnd the mountains will pass on, departing -
PickthallAnd the mountains move away with (awful) movement,
Yusuf AliAnd the mountains will fly hither and thither.
TransliterationFawaylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen
Sahih InternationalThen woe, that Day, to the deniers,
PickthallThen woe that day unto the deniers
Yusuf AliThen woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;-
TransliterationAllatheena hum fee khawdinyalAAaboon
Sahih InternationalWho are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves.
PickthallWho play in talk of grave matters;
Yusuf AliThat play (and paddle) in shallow trifles.
TransliterationYawma yudaAAAAoona ila narijahannama daAAAAa
Sahih InternationalThe Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say],
PickthallThe day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell
Yusuf AliThat Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly.
TransliterationHathihi annaru allateekuntum biha tukaththiboon
Sahih International"This is the Fire which you used to deny.
Pickthall(And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny.
Yusuf Ali"This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny!
TransliterationAfasihrun hatha am antum latubsiroon
Sahih InternationalThen is this magic, or do you not see?
PickthallIs this magic, or do ye not see?
Yusuf Ali"Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see?
TransliterationIslawha fasbirooaw la tasbiroo sawaon AAalaykum innamatujzawna ma kuntum taAAmaloon
Sahih International[Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do."
PickthallEndure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do.
Yusuf Ali"Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds."
TransliterationInna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwanaAAeem
Sahih InternationalIndeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure,
PickthallLo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight,
Yusuf AliAs to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,-
TransliterationFakiheena bima atahumrabbuhum wawaqahum rabbuhum AAathaba aljaheem
Sahih InternationalEnjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire.
PickthallHappy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire.
Yusuf AliEnjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire.
TransliterationKuloo washraboo hanee-an bimakuntum taAAmaloon
Sahih International[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."
Pickthall(And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do,
Yusuf Ali(To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds."
TransliterationMuttaki-eena AAala sururin masfoofatinwazawwajnahum bihoorin AAeen
Sahih InternationalThey will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.
PickthallReclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes.
Yusuf AliThey will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes.
TransliterationWallatheena amanoo wattabaAAat-humthurriyyatuhum bi-eemanin alhaqnabihim thurriyyatahum wama alatnahum minAAamalihim min shay-in kullu imri-in bima kasaba raheen
Sahih InternationalAnd those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained.
PickthallAnd they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned.
Yusuf AliAnd those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds.
TransliterationWaamdadnahum bifakihatin walahminmimma yashtahoon
Sahih InternationalAnd We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire.
PickthallAnd We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire.
Yusuf AliAnd We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire.
TransliterationYatanazaAAoona feeha ka/san lalaghwun feeha wala ta/theem
Sahih InternationalThey will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin.
PickthallThere they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin.
Yusuf AliThey shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill.
TransliterationWayatoofu AAalayhim ghilmanunlahum kaannahum lu/luon maknoon
Sahih InternationalThere will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected.
PickthallAnd there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls.
Yusuf AliRound about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded.
TransliterationWaaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatasaaloon
Sahih InternationalAnd they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
PickthallAnd some of them draw near unto others, questioning,
Yusuf AliThey will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry.
TransliterationQaloo inna kunna qablufee ahlina mushfiqeen
Sahih InternationalThey will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah ].
PickthallSaying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious;
Yusuf AliThey will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people.
TransliterationFamanna Allahu AAalayna wawaqanaAAathaba assamoom
Sahih InternationalSo Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire.
PickthallBut Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire.
Yusuf Ali"But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind.
TransliterationInna kunna min qablu nadAAoohuinnahu huwa albarru arraheem
Sahih InternationalIndeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful."
PickthallLo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali"Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!"
TransliterationFathakkir fama anta biniAAmatirabbika bikahin wala majnoon
Sahih InternationalSo remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman.
PickthallTherefor warn (men, O Muhammad). By the grace of Allah thou art neither soothsayer nor madman.
Yusuf AliTherefore proclaim thou the praises (of thy Lord): for by the Grace of thy Lord, thou art no (vulgar) soothsayer, nor art thou one possessed.
TransliterationAm yaqooloona shaAAirun natarabbasubihi rayba almanoon
Sahih InternationalOr do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time?"
PickthallOr say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time?
Yusuf AliOr do they say:- "A Poet! we await for him some calamity (hatched) by Time!"
TransliterationQul tarabbasoo fa-innee maAAakum minaalmutarabbiseen
Sahih InternationalSay, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters."
PickthallSay (unto them): Except (your fill)! Lo! I am with you among the expectant.
Yusuf AliSay thou: "Await ye!- I too will wait along with you!"
TransliterationAm ta/muruhum ahlamuhum bihathaam hum qawmun taghoon
Sahih InternationalOr do their minds command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing people?
PickthallDo their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk?
Yusuf AliIs it that their faculties of understanding urge them to this, or are they but a people transgressing beyond bounds?
TransliterationAm yaqooloona taqawwalahu bal layu/minoon
Sahih InternationalOr do they say, "He has made it up"? Rather, they do not believe.
PickthallOr say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe!
Yusuf AliOr do they say, "He fabricated the (Message)"? Nay, they have no faith!
TransliterationFalya/too bihadeethin mithlihi in kanoosadiqeena
Sahih InternationalThen let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful.
PickthallThen let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful.
Yusuf AliLet them then produce a recital like unto it,- If (it be) they speak the truth!
TransliterationAm khuliqoo min ghayri shay-in am humu alkhaliqoon
Sahih InternationalOr were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]?
PickthallOr were they created out of naught? Or are they the creators?
Yusuf AliWere they created of nothing, or were they themselves the creators?
TransliterationAm khalaqoo assamawatiwal-arda bal la yooqinoon
Sahih InternationalOr did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.
PickthallOr did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are sure of nothing!
Yusuf AliOr did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, they have no firm belief.
TransliterationAm AAindahum khaza-inu rabbika amhumu almusaytiroon
Sahih InternationalOr have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]?
PickthallOr do they own the treasures of thy Lord? Or have they been given charge (thereof)?
Yusuf AliOr are the Treasures of thy Lord with them, or are they the managers (of affairs)?
TransliterationAm lahum sullamun yastamiAAoona feehifalya/ti mustamiAAuhum bisultanin mubeen
Sahih InternationalOr have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority.
PickthallOr have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest!
Yusuf AliOr have they a ladder, by which they can (climb up to heaven and) listen (to its secrets)? Then let (such a) listener of theirs produce a manifest proof.
TransliterationAm lahu albanatu walakumu albanoon
Sahih InternationalOr has He daughters while you have sons?
PickthallOr hath He daughters whereas ye have sons?
Yusuf AliOr has He only daughters and ye have sons?
TransliterationAm tas-aluhum ajran fahum min maghraminmuthqaloon
Sahih InternationalOr do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?
PickthallOr askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt?
Yusuf AliOr is it that thou dost ask for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?-
TransliterationAm AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboon
Sahih InternationalOr have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?
PickthallOr possess they the Unseen so that they can write (it) down?
Yusuf AliOr that the Unseen in it their hands, and they write it down?
TransliterationAm yureedoona kaydan fallatheenakafaroo humu almakeedoon
Sahih InternationalOr do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve - they are the object of a plan.
PickthallOr seek they to ensnare (the messenger)? But those who disbelieve, they are the ensnared!
Yusuf AliOr do they intend a plot (against thee)? But those who defy Allah are themselves involved in a Plot!
TransliterationAm lahum ilahun ghayru Allahisubhana Allahi AAamma yushrikoon
Sahih InternationalOr have they a deity other than Allah ? Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.
PickthallOr have they any god beside Allah? Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)!
Yusuf AliOr have they a god other than Allah? Exalted is Allah far above the things they associate with Him!
TransliterationWa-in yaraw kisfan mina assama-isaqitan yaqooloo sahabun markoom
Sahih InternationalAnd if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up."
PickthallAnd if they were to see a fragment of the heaven falling, they would say: A heap of clouds.
Yusuf AliWere they to see a piece of the sky falling (on them), they would (only) say: "Clouds gathered in heaps!"
TransliterationFatharhum hatta yulaqooyawmahumu allathee feehi yusAAaqoon
Sahih InternationalSo leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck insensible -
PickthallThen let them be (O Muhammad), till they meet their day, in which they will be thunder-stricken,
Yusuf AliSo leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs, wherein they shall (perforce) swoon (with terror),-
TransliterationYawma la yughnee AAanhum kayduhumshay-an wala hum yunsaroon
Sahih InternationalThe Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped.
PickthallA day in which their guile will naught avail them, nor will they be helped.
Yusuf AliThe Day when their plotting will avail them nothing and no help shall be given them.
TransliterationWa-inna lillatheena thalamooAAathaban doona thalika walakinna aktharahumla yaAAlamoon
Sahih InternationalAnd indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know.
PickthallAnd verily, for those who do wrong, there is a punishment beyond that. But most of them know not.
Yusuf AliAnd verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment besides this: But most of them understand not.
TransliterationWasbir lihukmi rabbikafa-innaka bi-aAAyunina wasabbih bihamdirabbika heena taqoom
Sahih InternationalAnd be patient, [O Muhammad], for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes. And exalt [ Allah ] with praise of your Lord when you arise.
PickthallSo wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest,
Yusuf AliNow await in patience the command of thy Lord: for verily thou art in Our eyes: and celebrate the praises of thy Lord the while thou standest forth,
TransliterationWamina allayli fasabbihhu wa-idbaraannujoom
Sahih InternationalAnd in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars.
PickthallAnd in the night-time also hymn His praise, and at the setting of the stars.
Yusuf AliAnd for part of the night also praise thou Him,- and at the retreat of the stars!
