Surah Al-Wāqi`ah - سورة الواقعة
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
TransliterationItha waqaAAati alwaqiAAat
Sahih InternationalWhen the Occurrence occurs,
PickthallWhen the event befalleth -
Yusuf AliWhen the Event inevitable cometh to pass,
TransliterationLaysa liwaqAAatiha kathiba
Sahih InternationalThere is, at its occurrence, no denial.
PickthallThere is no denying that it will befall -
Yusuf AliThen will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming.
Sahih InternationalIt will bring down [some] and raise up [others].
PickthallAbasing (some), exalting (others);
Yusuf Ali(Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt;
TransliterationItha rujjati al-ardu rajja
Sahih InternationalWhen the earth is shaken with convulsion
PickthallWhen the earth is shaken with a shock
Yusuf AliWhen the earth shall be shaken to its depths,
TransliterationWabussati aljibalu bassa
Sahih InternationalAnd the mountains are broken down, crumbling
PickthallAnd the hills are ground to powder
Yusuf AliAnd the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms,
TransliterationFakanat habaan munbaththa
Sahih InternationalAnd become dust dispersing.
PickthallSo that they become a scattered dust,
Yusuf AliBecoming dust scattered abroad,
TransliterationWakuntum azwajan thalatha
Sahih InternationalAnd you become [of] three kinds:
PickthallAnd ye will be three kinds:
Yusuf AliAnd ye shall be sorted out into three classes.
TransliterationFaas-habu almaymanati maas-habu almaymanat
Sahih InternationalThen the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?
Pickthall(First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand?
Yusuf AliThen (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand?
TransliterationWaas-habu almash-amati maas-habu almash-amat
Sahih InternationalAnd the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left?
PickthallAnd (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand?
Yusuf AliAnd the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?
Sahih InternationalAnd the forerunners, the forerunners -
PickthallAnd the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race:
Yusuf AliAnd those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter).
Sahih InternationalThose are the ones brought near [to Allah ]
PickthallThose are they who will be brought nigh
Yusuf AliThese will be those Nearest to Allah:
TransliterationFee jannati annaAAeem
Sahih InternationalIn the Gardens of Pleasure,
PickthallIn gardens of delight;
Yusuf AliIn Gardens of Bliss:
TransliterationThullatun mina al-awwaleen
Sahih InternationalA [large] company of the former peoples
PickthallA multitude of those of old
Yusuf AliA number of people from those of old,
TransliterationWaqaleelun mina al-akhireena
Sahih InternationalAnd a few of the later peoples,
PickthallAnd a few of those of later time.
Yusuf AliAnd a few from those of later times.
TransliterationAAala sururin mawdoona
Sahih InternationalOn thrones woven [with ornament],
PickthallOn lined couches,
Yusuf Ali(They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones),
TransliterationMuttaki-eena AAalayha mutaqabileen
Sahih InternationalReclining on them, facing each other.
PickthallReclining therein face to face.
Yusuf AliReclining on them, facing each other.
TransliterationYatoofu AAalayhim wildanunmukhalladoon
Sahih InternationalThere will circulate among them young boys made eternal
PickthallThere wait on them immortal youths
Yusuf AliRound about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness),
TransliterationBi-akwabin waabareeqa waka/sinmin maAAeen
Sahih InternationalWith vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring -
PickthallWith bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring
Yusuf AliWith goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains:
TransliterationLa yusaddaAAoona AAanhawala yunzifoon
Sahih InternationalNo headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated -
PickthallWherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness,
Yusuf AliNo after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication:
Sahih InternationalAnd fruit of what they select
PickthallAnd fruit that they prefer
Yusuf AliAnd with fruits, any that they may select:
TransliterationWalahmi tayrin mimmayashtahoon
Sahih InternationalAnd the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire.
PickthallAnd flesh of fowls that they desire.
Yusuf AliAnd the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire.
Sahih InternationalAnd [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes,
PickthallAnd (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes,
Yusuf AliAnd (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,-
TransliterationKaamthali allu/lui almaknoon
Sahih InternationalThe likenesses of pearls well-protected,
PickthallLike unto hidden pearls,
Yusuf AliLike unto Pearls well-guarded.
TransliterationJazaan bima kanooyaAAmaloon
Sahih InternationalAs reward for what they used to do.
PickthallReward for what they used to do.
Yusuf AliA Reward for the deeds of their past (life).
TransliterationLa yasmaAAoona feeha laghwanwala ta/theema
Sahih InternationalThey will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin -
PickthallThere hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination
Yusuf AliNot frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,-
TransliterationIlla qeelan salaman salama
Sahih InternationalOnly a saying: "Peace, peace."
Pickthall(Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace.
Yusuf AliOnly the saying, "Peace! Peace".
TransliterationWaas-habu alyameeni maas-habu alyameen
Sahih InternationalThe companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?
PickthallAnd those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand?
Yusuf AliThe Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand?
TransliterationFee sidrin makhdood
Sahih International[They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed
PickthallAmong thornless lote-trees
Yusuf Ali(They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns,
Sahih InternationalAnd [banana] trees layered [with fruit]
PickthallAnd clustered plantains,
Yusuf AliAmong Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,-
Sahih InternationalAnd shade extended
PickthallAnd spreading shade,
Yusuf AliIn shade long-extended,
Sahih InternationalAnd water poured out
PickthallAnd water gushing,
Yusuf AliBy water flowing constantly,
Sahih InternationalAnd fruit, abundant [and varied],
PickthallAnd fruit in plenty
Yusuf AliAnd fruit in abundance.
TransliterationLa maqtooAAatin walamamnooAAa
Sahih InternationalNeither limited [to season] nor forbidden,
PickthallNeither out of reach nor yet forbidden,
Yusuf AliWhose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden,
Sahih InternationalAnd [upon] beds raised high.
PickthallAnd raised couches;
Yusuf AliAnd on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high.
TransliterationInna ansha/nahunna inshaa
Sahih InternationalIndeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation
PickthallLo! We have created them a (new) creation
Yusuf AliWe have created (their Companions) of special creation.
Sahih InternationalAnd made them virgins,
PickthallAnd made them virgins,
Yusuf AliAnd made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), -
Sahih InternationalDevoted [to their husbands] and of equal age,
Yusuf AliBeloved (by nature), equal in age,-
Sahih InternationalFor the companions of the right [who are]
PickthallFor those on the right hand;
Yusuf AliFor the Companions of the Right Hand.
TransliterationThullatun mina al-awwaleen
Sahih InternationalA company of the former peoples
PickthallA multitude of those of old
Yusuf AliA (goodly) number from those of old,
TransliterationWathullatun mina al-akhireen
Sahih InternationalAnd a company of the later peoples.
PickthallAnd a multitude of those of later time.
Yusuf AliAnd a (goodly) number from those of later times.
TransliterationWaas-habu ashshimalima as-habu ashshimal
Sahih InternationalAnd the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left?
PickthallAnd those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand?
Yusuf AliThe Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?
TransliterationFee samoomin wahameem
Sahih International[They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water
PickthallIn scorching wind and scalding water
Yusuf Ali(They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water,
TransliterationWathillin min yahmoom
Sahih InternationalAnd a shade of black smoke,
PickthallAnd shadow of black smoke,
Yusuf AliAnd in the shades of Black Smoke:
TransliterationLa baridin wala kareem
Sahih InternationalNeither cool nor beneficial.
PickthallNeither cool nor refreshing.
Yusuf AliNothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please:
TransliterationInnahum kanoo qabla thalikamutrafeen
Sahih InternationalIndeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence,
PickthallLo! heretofore they were effete with luxury
Yusuf AliFor that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury),
TransliterationWakanoo yusirroona AAalaalhinthi alAAatheem
Sahih InternationalAnd they used to persist in the great violation,
PickthallAnd used to persist in the awful sin.
Yusuf AliAnd persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme!
TransliterationWakanoo yaqooloona a-itha mitnawakunna turaban waAAithamana-inna lamabAAoothoon
Sahih InternationalAnd they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
PickthallAnd they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again,
Yusuf AliAnd they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?-
TransliterationAwa abaona al-awwaloon
Sahih InternationalAnd our forefathers [as well]?"
PickthallAnd also our forefathers?
Yusuf Ali"(We) and our fathers of old?"
TransliterationQul inna al-awwaleena wal-akhireen
Sahih InternationalSay, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples
PickthallSay (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time
Yusuf AliSay: "Yea, those of old and those of later times,
TransliterationLamajmooAAoona ila meeqatiyawmin maAAloom
Sahih InternationalAre to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day."
PickthallWill all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day.
Yusuf Ali"All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known.
TransliterationThumma innakum ayyuha addalloonaalmukaththiboon
Sahih InternationalThen indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers,
PickthallThen lo! ye, the erring, the deniers,
Yusuf Ali"Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!-
TransliterationLaakiloona min shajarin min zaqqoom
Sahih InternationalWill be eating from trees of zaqqum
PickthallYe verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum
Yusuf Ali"Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum.
TransliterationFamali-oona minha albutoon
Sahih InternationalAnd filling with it your bellies
PickthallAnd will fill your bellies therewith;
Yusuf Ali"Then will ye fill your insides therewith,
TransliterationFashariboona AAalayhi mina alhameem
Sahih InternationalAnd drinking on top of it from scalding water
PickthallAnd thereon ye will drink of boiling water,
Yusuf Ali"And drink Boiling Water on top of it:
TransliterationFashariboona shurba alheem
Sahih InternationalAnd will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels.
PickthallDrinking even as the camel drinketh.
Yusuf Ali"Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!"
TransliterationHatha nuzuluhum yawma addeen
Sahih InternationalThat is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense.
PickthallThis will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment.
Yusuf AliSuch will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital!
TransliterationNahnu khalaqnakum falawlatusaddiqoon
Sahih InternationalWe have created you, so why do you not believe?
PickthallWe created you. Will ye then admit the truth?
Yusuf AliIt is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth?
TransliterationAfaraaytum ma tumnoon
Sahih InternationalHave you seen that which you emit?
PickthallHave ye seen that which ye emit?
Yusuf AliDo ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,-
TransliterationAantum takhluqoonahu am nahnu alkhaliqoon
Sahih InternationalIs it you who creates it, or are We the Creator?
PickthallDo ye create it or are We the Creator?
Yusuf AliIs it ye who create it, or are We the Creators?
TransliterationNahnu qaddarna baynakumualmawta wama nahnu bimasbooqeen
Sahih InternationalWe have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone
PickthallWe mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun,
Yusuf AliWe have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated
TransliterationAAala an nubaddila amthalakumwanunshi-akum fee ma la taAAlamoon
Sahih InternationalIn that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know.
PickthallThat We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not.
Yusuf Alifrom changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not.
TransliterationWalaqad AAalimtumu annash-ata al-oolafalawla tathakkaroon
Sahih InternationalAnd you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember?
PickthallAnd verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect?
Yusuf AliAnd ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises?
TransliterationAfaraaytum ma tahruthoon
Sahih InternationalAnd have you seen that [seed] which you sow?
PickthallHave ye seen that which ye cultivate?
Yusuf AliSee ye the seed that ye sow in the ground?
TransliterationAantum tazraAAoonahu am nahnu azzariAAoon
Sahih InternationalIs it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower?
PickthallIs it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer?
Yusuf AliIs it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause?
TransliterationLaw nashao lajaAAalnahu hutamanfathaltum tafakkahoon
Sahih InternationalIf We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder,
PickthallIf We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim:
Yusuf AliWere it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment,
Sahih International[Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt;
PickthallLo! we are laden with debt!
Yusuf Ali(Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing):
TransliterationBal nahnu mahroomoon
Sahih InternationalRather, we have been deprived."
PickthallNay, but we are deprived!
Yusuf Ali"Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)"
TransliterationAfaraaytumu almaa allatheetashraboon
Sahih InternationalAnd have you seen the water that you drink?
PickthallHave ye observed the water which ye drink?
Yusuf AliSee ye the water which ye drink?
TransliterationAantum anzaltumoohu mina almuzni am nahnualmunziloon
Sahih InternationalIs it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down?
PickthallIs it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder?
Yusuf AliDo ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We?
TransliterationLaw nashao jaAAalnahu ojajanfalawla tashkuroon
Sahih InternationalIf We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?
PickthallIf We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks?
Yusuf AliWere it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks?
TransliterationAfaraaytumu annara allateetooroon
Sahih InternationalAnd have you seen the fire that you ignite?
PickthallHave ye observed the fire which ye strike out;
Yusuf AliSee ye the Fire which ye kindle?
TransliterationAantum ansha/tum shajarataha am nahnualmunshi-oon
Sahih InternationalIs it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer?
PickthallWas it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower?
Yusuf AliIs it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it?
TransliterationNahnu jaAAalnaha tathkiratanwamataAAan lilmuqween
Sahih InternationalWe have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers,
PickthallWe, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness.
Yusuf AliWe have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts.
TransliterationFasabbih bismi rabbika alAAatheem
Sahih InternationalSo exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
PickthallTherefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous.
Yusuf AliThen celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme!
TransliterationFala oqsimu bimawaqiAAi annujoom
Sahih InternationalThen I swear by the setting of the stars,
PickthallNay, I swear by the places of the stars -
Yusuf AliFurthermore I call to witness the setting of the Stars,-
TransliterationWa-innahu laqasamun law taAAlamoona AAatheem
Sahih InternationalAnd indeed, it is an oath - if you could know - [most] great.
PickthallAnd lo! that verily is a tremendous oath, if ye but knew -
Yusuf AliAnd that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew,-
TransliterationInnahu laqur-anun kareem
Sahih InternationalIndeed, it is a noble Qur'an
PickthallThat (this) is indeed a noble Qur'an
Yusuf AliThat this is indeed a qur'an Most Honourable,
TransliterationFee kitabin maknoon
Sahih InternationalIn a Register well-protected;
PickthallIn a Book kept hidden
Yusuf AliIn Book well-guarded,
TransliterationLa yamassuhu illa almutahharoon
Sahih InternationalNone touch it except the purified.
PickthallWhich none toucheth save the purified,
Yusuf AliWhich none shall touch but those who are clean:
TransliterationTanzeelun min rabbi alAAalameen
Sahih International[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
PickthallA revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
Yusuf AliA Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
TransliterationAfabihatha alhadeethi antummudhinoon
Sahih InternationalThen is it to this statement that you are indifferent
PickthallIs it this Statement that ye scorn,
Yusuf AliIs it such a Message that ye would hold in light esteem?
TransliterationWatajAAaloona rizqakum annakum tukaththiboon
Sahih InternationalAnd make [the thanks for] your provision that you deny [the Provider]?
PickthallAnd make denial thereof your livelihood?
Yusuf AliAnd have ye made it your livelihood that ye should declare it false?
TransliterationFalawla itha balaghati alhulqoom
Sahih InternationalThen why, when the soul at death reaches the throat
PickthallWhy, then, when (the soul) cometh up to the throat (of the dying)
Yusuf AliThen why do ye not (intervene) when (the soul of the dying man) reaches the throat,-
TransliterationWaantum heena-ithin tanthuroona
Sahih InternationalAnd you are at that time looking on -
PickthallAnd ye are at that moment looking
Yusuf AliAnd ye the while (sit) looking on,-
TransliterationWanahnu aqrabu ilayhi minkum walakinla tubsiroon
Sahih InternationalAnd Our angels are nearer to him than you, but you do not see -
Pickthall- And We are nearer unto him than ye are, but ye see not -
Yusuf AliBut We are nearer to him than ye, and yet see not,-
TransliterationFalawla in kuntum ghayra madeeneen
Sahih InternationalThen why do you not, if you are not to be recompensed,
PickthallWhy then, if ye are not in bondage (unto Us),
Yusuf AliThen why do ye not,- If you are exempt from (future) account,-
TransliterationTarjiAAoonaha in kuntum sadiqeen
Sahih InternationalBring it back, if you should be truthful?
PickthallDo ye not force it back, if ye are truthful?
Yusuf AliCall back the soul, if ye are true (in the claim of independence)?
TransliterationFaamma in kana minaalmuqarrabeen
Sahih InternationalAnd if the deceased was of those brought near to Allah ,
PickthallThus if he is of those brought nigh,
Yusuf AliThus, then, if he be of those Nearest to Allah,
TransliterationFarawhun warayhanun wajannatunaAAeem
Sahih InternationalThen [for him is] rest and bounty and a garden of pleasure.
PickthallThen breath of life, and plenty, and a Garden of delight.
Yusuf Ali(There is for him) Rest and Satisfaction, and a Garden of Delights.
TransliterationWaamma in kana min as-habialyameen
Sahih InternationalAnd if he was of the companions of the right,
PickthallAnd if he is of those on the right hand,
Yusuf AliAnd if he be of the Companions of the Right Hand,
TransliterationFasalamun laka min as-habialyameen
Sahih InternationalThen [the angels will say], "Peace for you; [you are] from the companions of the right."
PickthallThen (the greeting) "Peace be unto thee" from those on the right hand.
Yusuf Ali(For him is the salutation), "Peace be unto thee", from the Companions of the Right Hand.
TransliterationWaamma in kana mina almukaththibeenaaddalleen
Sahih InternationalBut if he was of the deniers [who were] astray,
PickthallBut if he is of the rejecters, the erring,
Yusuf AliAnd if he be of those who treat (Truth) as Falsehood, who go wrong,
TransliterationFanuzulun min hameem
Sahih InternationalThen [for him is] accommodation of scalding water
PickthallThen the welcome will be boiling water
Yusuf AliFor him is Entertainment with Boiling Water.
Sahih InternationalAnd burning in Hellfire
PickthallAnd roasting at hell-fire.
Yusuf AliAnd burning in Hell-Fire.
TransliterationInna hatha lahuwa haqqualyaqeen
Sahih InternationalIndeed, this is the true certainty,
PickthallLo! this is certain truth.
Yusuf AliVerily, this is the Very Truth and Certainly.
