TransliterationWama adraka ma alhaqqa
Sahih InternationalAnd what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?
PickthallAh, what will convey unto thee what the reality is!
Yusuf AliAnd what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is?
TransliterationKaththabat thamoodu waAAadun bilqariAAa
Sahih InternationalThamud and 'Aad denied the Striking Calamity.
Pickthall(The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come.
Yusuf AliThe Thamud and the 'Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning Calamity!
TransliterationFaamma thamoodu faohlikoo bittaghiya
Sahih InternationalSo as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].
PickthallAs for Thamud, they were destroyed by the lightning.
Yusuf AliBut the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning!
TransliterationWaamma AAadun faohlikoo bireehinsarsarin AAatiya
Sahih InternationalAnd as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind
PickthallAnd as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind,
Yusuf AliAnd the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent;
TransliterationSakhkharaha AAalayhim sabAAa layalinwathamaniyata ayyamin husooman fataraalqawma feeha sarAAa kaannahum aAAjazunakhlin khawiya
Sahih InternationalWhich Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
PickthallWhich He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm-trees.
Yusuf AliHe made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down!
TransliterationFahal tara lahum min baqiya
Sahih InternationalThen do you see of them any remains?
PickthallCanst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them?
Yusuf AliThen seest thou any of them left surviving?
TransliterationWajaa firAAawnu waman qablahu walmu/tafikatubilkhati-a
Sahih InternationalAnd there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.
PickthallAnd Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error,
Yusuf AliAnd Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin.
TransliterationFaAAasaw rasoola rabbihim faakhathahumakhthatan rabiya
Sahih InternationalAnd they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].
PickthallAnd they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip.
Yusuf AliAnd disobeyed (each) the messenger of their Lord; so He punished them with an abundant Penalty.
TransliterationInna lamma taghaalmao hamalnakum fee aljariya
Sahih InternationalIndeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship
PickthallLo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship
Yusuf AliWe, when the water (of Noah's Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark),
TransliterationLinajAAalaha lakum tathkiratanwataAAiyaha othunun waAAiya
Sahih InternationalThat We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.
PickthallThat We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember.
Yusuf AliThat We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance.
TransliterationFa-itha nufikha fee assoorinafkhatun wahida
Sahih InternationalThen when the Horn is blown with one blast
PickthallAnd when the trumpet shall sound one blast
Yusuf AliThen, when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet,
TransliterationWahumilati al-ardu waljibalufadukkata dakkatan wahida
Sahih InternationalAnd the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow -
PickthallAnd the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash,
Yusuf AliAnd the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,-
TransliterationFayawma-ithin waqaAAati alwaqiAAa
Sahih InternationalThen on that Day, the Resurrection will occur,
PickthallThen, on that day will the Event befall.
Yusuf AliOn that Day shall the (Great) Event come to pass.
TransliterationWanshaqqati assamaofahiya yawma-ithin wahiya
Sahih InternationalAnd the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.
PickthallAnd the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail.
Yusuf AliAnd the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy,
TransliterationWalmalaku AAala arja-ihawayahmilu AAarsha rabbika fawqahum yawma-ithin thamaniya
Sahih InternationalAnd the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].
PickthallAnd the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them.
Yusuf AliAnd the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them.
TransliterationYawma-ithin tuAAradoona latakhfa minkum khafiya
Sahih InternationalThat Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.
PickthallOn that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden.
Yusuf AliThat Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours that ye hide will be hidden.
TransliterationFaamma man ootiya kitabahubiyameenihi fayaqoolu haomu iqraoo kitabiyah
Sahih InternationalSo as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!
PickthallThen, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: Take, read my book!
Yusuf AliThen he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record!
TransliterationInnee thanantu annee mulaqinhisabiyah
Sahih InternationalIndeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."
PickthallSurely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning.
Yusuf Ali"I did really understand that my Account would (One Day) reach me!"
TransliterationFahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiya
Sahih InternationalSo he will be in a pleasant life -
PickthallThen he will be in blissful state
Yusuf AliAnd he will be in a life of Bliss,
TransliterationFee jannatin AAaliya
Sahih InternationalIn an elevated garden,
PickthallIn a high garden
Yusuf AliIn a Garden on high,
Sahih InternationalIts [fruit] to be picked hanging near.
PickthallWhereof the clusters are in easy reach.
Yusuf AliThe Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near.
TransliterationKuloo washraboo hanee-an bimaaslaftum fee al-ayyami alkhaliya
Sahih International[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."
Pickthall(And it will be said unto those therein): Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days.
Yusuf Ali"Eat ye and drink ye, with full satisfaction; because of the (good) that ye sent before you, in the days that are gone!"
TransliterationWaamma man ootiya kitabahubishimalihi fayaqoolu ya laytanee lam oota kitabiyah
Sahih InternationalBut as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record
PickthallBut as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: Oh, would that I had not been given my book
Yusuf AliAnd he that will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "Ah! Would that my Record had not been given to me!
TransliterationWalam adri ma hisabiyah
Sahih InternationalAnd had not known what is my account.
PickthallAnd knew not what my reckoning!
Yusuf Ali"And that I had never realised how my account (stood)!
TransliterationYa laytaha kanati alqadiya
Sahih InternationalI wish my death had been the decisive one.
PickthallOh, would that it had been death!
Yusuf Ali"Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me!
TransliterationMa aghna AAannee maliyah
Sahih InternationalMy wealth has not availed me.
PickthallMy wealth hath not availed me,
Yusuf Ali"Of no profit to me has been my wealth!
TransliterationHalaka AAannee sultaniyah
Sahih InternationalGone from me is my authority."
PickthallMy power hath gone from me.
Yusuf Ali"My power has perished from me!"...
Sahih International[ Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him.
Pickthall(It will be said): Take him and fetter him
Yusuf Ali(The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him,
TransliterationThumma aljaheema sallooh
Sahih InternationalThen into Hellfire drive him.
PickthallAnd then expose him to hell-fire
Yusuf Ali"And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire.
TransliterationThumma fee silsilatin tharAAuhasabAAoona thiraAAan faslukooh
Sahih InternationalThen into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."
PickthallAnd then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits.
Yusuf Ali"Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits!
TransliterationInnahu kana la yu/minu billahialAAatheem
Sahih InternationalIndeed, he did not used to believe in Allah , the Most Great,
PickthallLo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous,
Yusuf Ali"This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High.
TransliterationWala yahuddu AAalataAAami almiskeen
Sahih InternationalNor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.
PickthallAnd urged not on the feeding of the wretched.
Yusuf Ali"And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent!
TransliterationFalaysa lahu alyawma hahuna hameem
Sahih InternationalSo there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend
PickthallTherefor hath he no lover here this day,
Yusuf Ali"So no friend hath he here this Day.
TransliterationWala taAAamun illamin ghisleen
Sahih InternationalNor any food except from the discharge of wounds;
PickthallNor any food save filth
Yusuf Ali"Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds,
TransliterationLa ya/kuluhu illa alkhati-oon
Sahih InternationalNone will eat it except the sinners.
PickthallWhich none but sinners eat.
Yusuf Ali"Which none do eat but those in sin."
TransliterationFala oqsimu bima tubsiroon
Sahih InternationalSo I swear by what you see
PickthallBut nay! I swear by all that ye see
Yusuf AliSo I do call to witness what ye see,
TransliterationWama la tubsiroon
Sahih InternationalAnd what you do not see
PickthallAnd all that ye see not
Yusuf AliAnd what ye see not,
TransliterationInnahu laqawlu rasoolin kareem
Sahih International[That] indeed, the Qur'an is the word of a noble Messenger.
PickthallThat it is indeed the speech of an illustrious messenger.
Yusuf AliThat this is verily the word of an honoured messenger;
TransliterationWama huwa biqawli shaAAirinqaleelan ma tu/minoon
Sahih InternationalAnd it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.
PickthallIt is not poet's speech - little is it that ye believe!
Yusuf AliIt is not the word of a poet: little it is ye believe!
TransliterationWala biqawli kahinin qaleelanma tathakkaroon
Sahih InternationalNor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.
PickthallNor diviner's speech - little is it that ye remember!
Yusuf AliNor is it the word of a soothsayer: little admonition it is ye receive.
TransliterationTanzeelun min rabbi alAAalameen
Sahih International[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
PickthallIt is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
Yusuf Ali(This is) a Message sent down from the Lord of the Worlds.
TransliterationWalaw taqawwala AAalayna baAAdaal-aqaweel
Sahih InternationalAnd if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings,
PickthallAnd if he had invented false sayings concerning Us,
Yusuf AliAnd if the messenger were to invent any sayings in Our name,
TransliterationLaakhathna minhu bilyameen
Sahih InternationalWe would have seized him by the right hand;
PickthallWe assuredly had taken him by the right hand
Yusuf AliWe should certainly seize him by his right hand,
TransliterationThumma laqataAAna minhualwateen
Sahih InternationalThen We would have cut from him the aorta.
PickthallAnd then severed his life-artery,
Yusuf AliAnd We should certainly then cut off the artery of his heart:
TransliterationFama minkum min ahadin AAanhu hajizeen
Sahih InternationalAnd there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.
PickthallAnd not one of you could have held Us off from him.
Yusuf AliNor could any of you withhold him (from Our wrath).
TransliterationWa-innahu latathkiratun lilmuttaqeen
Sahih InternationalAnd indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder for the righteous.
PickthallAnd lo! it is a warrant unto those who ward off (evil).
Yusuf AliBut verily this is a Message for the Allah-fearing.
TransliterationWa-inna lanaAAlamu anna minkum mukaththibeen
Sahih InternationalAnd indeed, We know that among you are deniers.
PickthallAnd lo! We know that some among you will deny (it).
Yusuf AliAnd We certainly know that there are amongst you those that reject (it).
TransliterationWa-innahu lahasratun AAala alkafireen
Sahih InternationalAnd indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.
PickthallAnd lo! it is indeed an anguish for the disbelievers.
Yusuf AliBut truly (Revelation) is a cause of sorrow for the Unbelievers.
TransliterationWa-innahu lahaqqu alyaqeen
Sahih InternationalAnd indeed, it is the truth of certainty.
PickthallAnd lo! it is absolute truth.
Yusuf AliBut verily it is Truth of assured certainty.
