Surah Al-'Insān - سورة الانسان
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
TransliterationHal ata AAala al-insani heenunmina addahri lam yakun shay-an mathkoora
Sahih InternationalHas there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned?
PickthallHath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered?
Yusuf AliHas there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned?
TransliterationInna khalaqna al-insanamin nutfatin amshajin nabtaleehi fajaAAalnahusameeAAan baseera
Sahih InternationalIndeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing.
PickthallLo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing.
Yusuf AliVerily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight.
TransliterationInna hadaynahu assabeelaimma shakiran wa-imma kafoora
Sahih InternationalIndeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful.
PickthallLo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving.
Yusuf AliWe showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will).
TransliterationInna aAAtadna lilkafireenasalasila waaghlalan wasaAAeera
Sahih InternationalIndeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze.
PickthallLo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire.
Yusuf AliFor the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire.
TransliterationInna al-abrara yashraboona min ka/sinkana mizajuha kafoora
Sahih InternationalIndeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kafur,
PickthallLo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur,
Yusuf AliAs to the Righteous, they shall drink of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Kafur,-
TransliterationAAaynan yashrabu biha AAibaduAllahi yufajjiroonaha tafjeera
Sahih InternationalA spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance].
PickthallA spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly,
Yusuf AliA Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance.
TransliterationYoofoona binnathri wayakhafoonayawman kana sharruhu mustateera
Sahih InternationalThey [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread.
Pickthall(Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading,
Yusuf AliThey perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide.
TransliterationWayutAAimona attaAAamaAAala hubbihi miskeenan wayateeman waaseera
Sahih InternationalAnd they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive,
PickthallAnd feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him,
Yusuf AliAnd they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,-
TransliterationInnama nutAAimukum liwajhi Allahila nureedu minkum jazaan wala shukoora
Sahih International[Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah . We wish not from you reward or gratitude.
Pickthall(Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you;
Yusuf Ali(Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks.
TransliterationInna nakhafu min rabbinayawman AAaboosan qamtareera
Sahih InternationalIndeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful."
PickthallLo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate.
Yusuf Ali"We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord."
TransliterationFawaqahumu Allahu sharra thalikaalyawmi walaqqahum nadratan wasuroora
Sahih InternationalSo Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness
PickthallTherefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy;
Yusuf AliBut Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy.
TransliterationWajazahum bima sabaroojannatan wahareera
Sahih InternationalAnd will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments].
PickthallAnd hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire;
Yusuf AliAnd because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk.
TransliterationMuttaki-eena feeha AAala al-ara-ikila yarawna feeha shamsan wala zamhareera
Sahih International[They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold.
PickthallReclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold.
Yusuf AliReclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold.
TransliterationWadaniyatan AAalayhim thilaluhawathullilat qutoofuha tathleela
Sahih InternationalAnd near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance.
PickthallThe shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down.
Yusuf AliAnd the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility.
TransliterationWayutafu AAalayhim bi-aniyatinmin fiddatin waakwabin kanat qawareera
Sahih InternationalAnd there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass],
PickthallGoblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass
Yusuf AliAnd amongst them will be passedround vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,-
TransliterationQawareera min fiddatinqaddarooha taqdeera
Sahih InternationalClear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure.
Pickthall(Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds).
Yusuf AliCrystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes).
TransliterationWayusqawna feeha ka/san kanamizajuha zanjabeela
Sahih InternationalAnd they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger
PickthallThere are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil,
Yusuf AliAnd they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,-
TransliterationAAaynan feeha tusammasalsabeela
Sahih International[From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel.
Pickthall(The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil.
Yusuf AliA fountain there, called Salsabil.
TransliterationWayatoofu AAalayhim wildanunmukhalladoona itha raaytahum hasibtahum lu/lu-anmanthoora
Sahih InternationalThere will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls.
PickthallThere wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls.
Yusuf AliAnd round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls.
TransliterationWa-itha raayta thamma raaytanaAAeeman wamulkan kabeera
Sahih InternationalAnd when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion.
PickthallWhen thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate.
Yusuf AliAnd when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent.
TransliterationAAaliyahum thiyabu sundusinkhudrun wa-istabraqun wahulloo asawira minfiddatin wasaqahum rabbuhum sharaban tahoora
Sahih InternationalUpon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink.
PickthallTheir raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink.
Yusuf AliUpon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy.
TransliterationInna hatha kana lakum jazaanwakana saAAyukum mashkoora
Sahih International[And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated."
Pickthall(And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance.
Yusuf Ali"Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised."
TransliterationInna nahnu nazzalnaAAalayka alqur-ana tanzeela
Sahih InternationalIndeed, it is We who have sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Qur'an progressively.
PickthallLo! We, even We, have revealed unto thee the Qur'an, a revelation;
Yusuf AliIt is We Who have sent down the Qur'an to thee by stages.
TransliterationFasbir lihukmi rabbikawala tutiAA minhum athiman aw kafoora
Sahih InternationalSo be patient for the decision of your Lord and do not obey from among them a sinner or ungrateful [disbeliever].
PickthallSo submit patiently to thy Lord's command, and obey not of them any guilty one or disbeliever.
Yusuf AliTherefore be patient with constancy to the Command of thy Lord, and hearken not to the sinner or the ingrate among them.
TransliterationWathkuri isma rabbikabukratan waaseela
Sahih InternationalAnd mention the name of your Lord [in prayer] morning and evening
PickthallRemember the name of thy Lord at morn and evening.
Yusuf AliAnd celebrate the name of thy Lord morning and evening,
TransliterationWamina allayli fasjud lahu wasabbihhulaylan taweela
Sahih InternationalAnd during the night prostrate to Him and exalt Him a long [part of the] night.
PickthallAnd worship Him (a portion) of the night. And glorify Him through the livelong night.
Yusuf AliAnd part of the night, prostrate thyself to Him; and glorify Him a long night through.
TransliterationInna haola-i yuhibboonaalAAajilata wayatharoona waraahum yawmanthaqeela
Sahih InternationalIndeed, these [disbelievers] love the immediate and leave behind them a grave Day.
PickthallLo! these love fleeting life, and put behind them (the remembrance of) a grievous day.
Yusuf AliAs to these, they love the fleeting life, and put away behind them a Day (that will be) hard.
TransliterationNahnu khalaqnahum washadadnaasrahum wa-itha shi/na baddalna amthalahumtabdeela
Sahih InternationalWe have created them and strengthened their forms, and when We will, We can change their likenesses with [complete] alteration.
PickthallWe, even We, created them, and strengthened their frame. And when We will, We can replace them, bringing others like them in their stead.
Yusuf AliIt is We Who created them, and We have made their joints strong; but, when We will, We can substitute the like of them by a complete change.
TransliterationInna hathihi tathkiratun famanshaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi sabeela
Sahih InternationalIndeed, this is a reminder, so he who wills may take to his Lord a way.
PickthallLo! this is an Admonishment, that whosoever will may choose a way unto his Lord.
Yusuf AliThis is an admonition: Whosoever will, let him take a (straight) Path to his Lord.
TransliterationWama tashaoona illa anyashaa Allahu inna Allaha kanaAAaleeman hakeema
Sahih InternationalAnd you do not will except that Allah wills. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.
PickthallYet ye will not, unless Allah willeth. Lo! Allah is Knower, Wise.
Yusuf AliBut ye will not, except as Allah wills; for Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom.
TransliterationYudkhilu man yashao fee rahmatihiwaththalimeena aAAadda lahum AAathabanaleema
Sahih InternationalHe admits whom He wills into His mercy; but the wrongdoers - He has prepared for them a painful punishment.
PickthallHe maketh whom He will to enter His mercy, and for evil-doers hath prepared a painful doom.
Yusuf AliHe will admit to His Mercy whom He will; But the wrong-doers,- for them has He prepared a grievous Penalty.
