Surah An-Nāzi`āt - سورة النازعات
(Those Who Pull Out)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Sahih InternationalBy those [angels] who extract with violence
PickthallBy those who drag forth to destruction,
Yusuf AliBy the (angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence;
Sahih InternationalAnd [by] those who remove with ease
PickthallBy the meteors rushing,
Yusuf AliBy those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed);
Sahih InternationalAnd [by] those who glide [as if] swimming
PickthallBy the lone stars floating,
Yusuf AliAnd by those who glide along (on errands of mercy),
Sahih InternationalAnd those who race each other in a race
PickthallBy the angels hastening,
Yusuf AliThen press forward as in a race,
Sahih InternationalAnd those who arrange [each] matter,
PickthallAnd those who govern the event,
Yusuf AliThen arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord),
TransliterationYawma tarjufu arrajifa
Sahih InternationalOn the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation],
PickthallOn the day when the first trump resoundeth.
Yusuf AliOne Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion,
Sahih InternationalThere will follow it the subsequent [one].
PickthallAnd the second followeth it,
Yusuf AliFollowed by oft-repeated (commotions):
TransliterationQuloobun yawma-ithin wajifa
Sahih InternationalHearts, that Day, will tremble,
PickthallOn that day hearts beat painfully
Yusuf AliHearts that Day will be in agitation;
Sahih InternationalTheir eyes humbled.
PickthallWhile eyes are downcast
Yusuf AliCast down will be (their owners') eyes.
TransliterationYaqooloona a-inna lamardoodoona feealhafira
Sahih InternationalThey are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]?
Pickthall(Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state
Yusuf AliThey say (now): "What! shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state?
TransliterationA-itha kunna AAithamannakhira
Sahih InternationalEven if we should be decayed bones?
PickthallEven after we are crumbled bones?
Yusuf Ali"What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?"
TransliterationQaloo tilka ithan karratun khasira
Sahih InternationalThey say, "That, then, would be a losing return."
PickthallThey say: Then that would be a vain proceeding.
Yusuf AliThey say: "It would, in that case, be a return with loss!"
TransliterationFa-innama hiya zajratun wahida
Sahih InternationalIndeed, it will be but one shout,
PickthallSurely it will need but one shout,
Yusuf AliBut verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry,
TransliterationFa-itha hum bissahira
Sahih InternationalAnd suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface.
PickthallAnd lo! they will be awakened.
Yusuf AliWhen, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment).
TransliterationHal ataka hadeethu moosa
Sahih InternationalHas there reached you the story of Moses? -
PickthallHath there come unto thee the history of Moses?
Yusuf AliHas the story of Moses reached thee?
TransliterationIth nadahu rabbuhu bilwadialmuqaddasi tuwa
Sahih InternationalWhen his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa,
PickthallHow his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa,
Yusuf AliBehold, thy Lord did call to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:-
TransliterationIthhab ila firAAawna innahu tagha
Sahih International"Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.
Pickthall(Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled -
Yusuf Ali"Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds:
TransliterationFaqul hal laka ila an tazakka
Sahih InternationalAnd say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself
PickthallAnd say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace)?
Yusuf Ali"And say to him, 'Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?-
TransliterationWaahdiyaka ila rabbika fatakhsha
Sahih InternationalAnd let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'"
PickthallThen I will guide thee to thy Lord and thou shalt fear (Him).
Yusuf Ali"'And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shouldst fear Him?'"
TransliterationFaarahu al-ayata alkubra
Sahih InternationalAnd he showed him the greatest sign,
PickthallAnd he showed him the tremendous token.
Yusuf AliThen did (Moses) show him the Great Sign.
Sahih InternationalBut Pharaoh denied and disobeyed.
PickthallBut he denied and disobeyed,
Yusuf AliBut (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance);
TransliterationThumma adbara yasAAa
Sahih InternationalThen he turned his back, striving.
PickthallThen turned he away in haste,
Yusuf AliFurther, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah).
Sahih InternationalAnd he gathered [his people] and called out
PickthallThen gathered he and summoned
Yusuf AliThen he collected (his men) and made a proclamation,
TransliterationFaqala ana rabbukumu al-aAAla
Sahih InternationalAnd said, "I am your most exalted lord."
PickthallAnd proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest."
Yusuf AliSaying, "I am your Lord, Most High".
TransliterationFaakhathahu Allahu nakalaal-akhirati wal-oola
Sahih InternationalSo Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].
PickthallSo Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former.
Yusuf AliBut Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life.
TransliterationInna fee thalika laAAibratan limanyakhsha
Sahih InternationalIndeed in that is a warning for whoever would fear [ Allah ].
PickthallLo! herein is indeed a lesson for him who feareth.
Yusuf AliVerily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah).
TransliterationAantum ashaddu khalqan ami assamaobanaha
Sahih InternationalAre you a more difficult creation or is the heaven? Allah constructed it.
PickthallAre ye the harder to create, or is the heaven that He built?
Yusuf AliWhat! Are ye the more difficult to create or the heaven (above)? (Allah) hath constructed it:
TransliterationRafaAAa samkaha fasawwaha
Sahih InternationalHe raised its ceiling and proportioned it.
PickthallHe raised the height thereof and ordered it;
Yusuf AliOn high hath He raised its canopy, and He hath given it order and perfection.
TransliterationWaaghtasha laylaha waakhraja duhaha
Sahih InternationalAnd He darkened its night and extracted its brightness.
PickthallAnd He made dark the night thereof, and He brought forth the morn thereof.
Yusuf AliIts night doth He endow with darkness, and its splendour doth He bring out (with light).
TransliterationWal-arda baAAda thalikadahaha
Sahih InternationalAnd after that He spread the earth.
PickthallAnd after that He spread the earth,
Yusuf AliAnd the earth, moreover, hath He extended (to a wide expanse);
TransliterationAkhraja minha maahawamarAAaha
Sahih InternationalHe extracted from it its water and its pasture,
PickthallAnd produced therefrom the water thereof and the pasture thereof,
Yusuf AliHe draweth out therefrom its moisture and its pasture;
Sahih InternationalAnd the mountains He set firmly
PickthallAnd He made fast the hills,
Yusuf AliAnd the mountains hath He firmly fixed;-
TransliterationMataAAan lakum wali-anAAamikum
Sahih InternationalAs provision for you and your grazing livestock.
PickthallA provision for you and for your cattle.
Yusuf AliFor use and convenience to you and your cattle.
TransliterationFa-itha jaati attammatualkubra
Sahih InternationalBut when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity -
PickthallBut when the great disaster cometh,
Yusuf AliTherefore, when there comes the great, overwhelming (Event),-
TransliterationYawma yatathakkaru al-insanu masaAAa
Sahih InternationalThe Day when man will remember that for which he strove,
PickthallThe day when man will call to mind his (whole) endeavour,
Yusuf AliThe Day when man shall remember (all) that he strove for,
TransliterationWaburrizati aljaheemu liman yara
Sahih InternationalAnd Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see -
PickthallAnd hell will stand forth visible to him who seeth,
Yusuf AliAnd Hell-Fire shall be placed in full view for (all) to see,-
TransliterationFaamma man tagha
Sahih InternationalSo as for he who transgressed
PickthallThen, as for him who rebelled
Yusuf AliThen, for such as had transgressed all bounds,
TransliterationWaathara alhayata addunya
Sahih InternationalAnd preferred the life of the world,
PickthallAnd chose the life of the world,
Yusuf AliAnd had preferred the life of this world,
TransliterationFa-inna aljaheema hiya alma/wa
Sahih InternationalThen indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge.
PickthallLo! hell will be his home.
Yusuf AliThe Abode will be Hell-Fire;
TransliterationWaama man khafa maqamarabbihi wanaha annafsa AAani alhawa
Sahih InternationalBut as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,
PickthallBut as for him who feared to stand before his Lord and restrained his soul from lust,
Yusuf AliAnd for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lord's (tribunal) and had restrained (their) soul from lower desires,
TransliterationFa-inna aljannata hiya alma/wa
Sahih InternationalThen indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.
PickthallLo! the Garden will be his home.
Yusuf AliTheir abode will be the Garden.
TransliterationYas-aloonaka AAani assaAAatiayyana mursaha
Sahih InternationalThey ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?
PickthallThey ask thee of the Hour: when will it come to port?
Yusuf AliThey ask thee about the Hour,-'When will be its appointed time?
TransliterationFeema anta min thikraha
Sahih InternationalIn what [position] are you that you should mention it?
PickthallWhy (ask they)? What hast thou to tell thereof?
Yusuf AliWherein art thou (concerned) with the declaration thereof?
TransliterationIla rabbika muntahaha
Sahih InternationalTo your Lord is its finality.
PickthallUnto thy Lord belongeth (knowledge of) the term thereof.
Yusuf AliWith thy Lord in the Limit fixed therefor.
TransliterationInnama anta munthiru manyakhshaha
Sahih InternationalYou are only a warner for those who fear it.
PickthallThou art but a warner unto him who feareth it.
Yusuf AliThou art but a Warner for such as fear it.
TransliterationKaannahum yawma yarawnaha lamyalbathoo illa AAashiyyatan aw duhaha
Sahih InternationalIt will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.
PickthallOn the day when they behold it, it will be as if they had but tarried for an evening or the morn thereof.
Yusuf AliThe Day they see it, (It will be) as if they had tarried but a single evening, or (at most till) the following morn!
