Surah At-Takwīr - سورة التكوير
(Wound Round and Lost its Light)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
TransliterationItha ashshamsu kuwwirat
Sahih InternationalWhen the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]
PickthallWhen the sun is overthrown,
Yusuf AliWhen the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up;
TransliterationWa-itha annujoomu inkadarat
Sahih InternationalAnd when the stars fall, dispersing,
PickthallAnd when the stars fall,
Yusuf AliWhen the stars fall, losing their lustre;
TransliterationWa-itha aljibalu suyyirat
Sahih InternationalAnd when the mountains are removed
PickthallAnd when the hills are moved,
Yusuf AliWhen the mountains vanish (like a mirage);
TransliterationWa-itha alAAisharu AAuttilat
Sahih InternationalAnd when full-term she-camels are neglected
PickthallAnd when the camels big with young are abandoned,
Yusuf AliWhen the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended;
TransliterationWa-itha alwuhooshu hushirat
Sahih InternationalAnd when the wild beasts are gathered
PickthallAnd when the wild beasts are herded together,
Yusuf AliWhen the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations);
TransliterationWa-itha albiharu sujjirat
Sahih InternationalAnd when the seas are filled with flame
PickthallAnd when the seas rise,
Yusuf AliWhen the oceans boil over with a swell;
TransliterationWa-itha annufoosu zuwwijat
Sahih InternationalAnd when the souls are paired
PickthallAnd when souls are reunited,
Yusuf AliWhen the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like);
TransliterationWa-itha almawoodatu su-ilat
Sahih InternationalAnd when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked
PickthallAnd when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked
Yusuf AliWhen the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned -
TransliterationBi-ayyi thanbin qutilat
Sahih InternationalFor what sin she was killed
PickthallFor what sin she was slain,
Yusuf AliFor what crime she was killed;
Sahih InternationalAnd when the pages are made public
PickthallAnd when the pages are laid open,
Yusuf AliWhen the scrolls are laid open;
TransliterationWa-itha assamao kushitat
Sahih InternationalAnd when the sky is stripped away
PickthallAnd when the sky is torn away,
Yusuf AliWhen the world on High is unveiled;
TransliterationWa-itha aljaheemu suAAAAirat
Sahih InternationalAnd when Hellfire is set ablaze
PickthallAnd when hell is lighted,
Yusuf AliWhen the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat;
TransliterationWa-itha aljannatu ozlifat
Sahih InternationalAnd when Paradise is brought near,
PickthallAnd when the Garden is brought nigh,
Yusuf AliAnd when the Garden is brought near;-
TransliterationAAalimat nafsun ma ahdarat
Sahih InternationalA soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it].
Pickthall(Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready.
Yusuf Ali(Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward.
TransliterationFala oqsimu bilkhunnas
Sahih InternationalSo I swear by the retreating stars -
PickthallOh, but I call to witness the planets,
Yusuf AliSo verily I call to witness the planets - that recede,
Sahih InternationalThose that run [their courses] and disappear -
PickthallThe stars which rise and set,
Yusuf AliGo straight, or hide;
TransliterationWallayli itha AAasAAas
Sahih InternationalAnd by the night as it closes in
PickthallAnd the close of night,
Yusuf AliAnd the Night as it dissipates;
Sahih InternationalAnd by the dawn when it breathes
PickthallAnd the breath of morning
Yusuf AliAnd the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;-
TransliterationInnahu laqawlu rasoolin kareem
Sahih International[That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger
PickthallThat this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger,
Yusuf AliVerily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger,
TransliterationThee quwwatin AAinda theealAAarshi makeen
Sahih International[Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position],
PickthallMighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne,
Yusuf AliEndued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne,
TransliterationMutaAAin thamma ameen
Sahih InternationalObeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy.
Pickthall(One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy;
Yusuf AliWith authority there, (and) faithful to his trust.
TransliterationWama sahibukum bimajnoon
Sahih InternationalAnd your companion is not [at all] mad.
PickthallAnd your comrade is not mad.
Yusuf AliAnd (O people!) your companion is not one possessed;
TransliterationWalaqad raahu bilofuqialmubeen
Sahih InternationalAnd he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon.
PickthallSurely he beheld Him on the clear horizon.
Yusuf AliAnd without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon.
TransliterationWama huwa AAala alghaybi bidaneen
Sahih InternationalAnd Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen.
PickthallAnd he is not avid of the Unseen.
Yusuf AliNeither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen.
TransliterationWama huwa biqawli shaytaninrajeem
Sahih InternationalAnd the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens].
PickthallNor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned.
Yusuf AliNor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed.
Sahih InternationalSo where are you going?
PickthallWhither then go ye?
Yusuf AliWhen whither go ye?
TransliterationIn huwa illa thikrun lilAAalameen
Sahih InternationalIt is not except a reminder to the worlds
PickthallThis is naught else than a reminder unto creation,
Yusuf AliVerily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds:
TransliterationLiman shaa minkum an yastaqeem
Sahih InternationalFor whoever wills among you to take a right course.
PickthallUnto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight.
Yusuf Ali(With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight:
TransliterationWama tashaoona illa anyashaa Allahu rabbu alAAalameen
Sahih InternationalAnd you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds.
PickthallAnd ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation.
Yusuf AliBut ye shall not will except as Allah wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds.
