Surah Al-'Inshiqāq - سورة الإنشقاق
(The Splitting Asunder)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
TransliterationItha assamao inshaqqat
Sahih InternationalWhen the sky has split [open]
PickthallWhen the heaven is split asunder
Yusuf AliWhen the sky is rent asunder,
TransliterationWaathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat
Sahih InternationalAnd has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]
PickthallAnd attentive to her Lord in fear,
Yusuf AliAnd hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);-
TransliterationWa-itha al-ardu muddat
Sahih InternationalAnd when the earth has been extended
PickthallAnd when the earth is spread out
Yusuf AliAnd when the earth is flattened out,
TransliterationWaalqat ma feeha watakhallat
Sahih InternationalAnd has cast out that within it and relinquished [it]
PickthallAnd hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty
Yusuf AliAnd casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty,
TransliterationWaathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat
Sahih InternationalAnd has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] -
PickthallAnd attentive to her Lord in fear!
Yusuf AliAnd hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality).
TransliterationYa ayyuha al-insanuinnaka kadihun ila rabbika kadhanfamulaqeeh
Sahih InternationalO mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.
PickthallThou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence).
Yusuf AliO thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him.
TransliterationFaama man ootiya kitabahubiyameenih
Sahih InternationalThen as for he who is given his record in his right hand,
PickthallThen whoso is given his account in his right hand
Yusuf AliThen he who is given his Record in his right hand,
TransliterationFasawfa yuhasabu hisabanyaseera
Sahih InternationalHe will be judged with an easy account
PickthallHe truly will receive an easy reckoning
Yusuf AliSoon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning,
TransliterationWayanqalibu ila ahlihi masroora
Sahih InternationalAnd return to his people in happiness.
PickthallAnd will return unto his folk in joy.
Yusuf AliAnd he will turn to his people, rejoicing!
TransliterationWaamma man ootiya kitabahu waraathahrih
Sahih InternationalBut as for he who is given his record behind his back,
PickthallBut whoso is given his account behind his back,
Yusuf AliBut he who is given his Record behind his back,-
TransliterationFasawfa yadAAoo thuboora
Sahih InternationalHe will cry out for destruction
PickthallHe surely will invoke destruction
Yusuf AliSoon will he cry for perdition,
Sahih InternationalAnd [enter to] burn in a Blaze.
PickthallAnd be thrown to scorching fire.
Yusuf AliAnd he will enter a Blazing Fire.
TransliterationInnahu kana fee ahlihi masroora
Sahih InternationalIndeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;
PickthallHe verily lived joyous with his folk,
Yusuf AliTruly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing!
TransliterationInnahu thanna an lan yahoor
Sahih InternationalIndeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah ].
PickthallHe verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah).
Yusuf AliTruly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)!
TransliterationBala inna rabbahu kana bihi baseera
Sahih InternationalBut yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing.
PickthallNay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him!
Yusuf AliNay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him!
TransliterationFala oqsimu bishshafaq
Sahih InternationalSo I swear by the twilight glow
PickthallOh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset,
Yusuf AliSo I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset;
TransliterationWallayli wama wasaq
Sahih InternationalAnd [by] the night and what it envelops
PickthallAnd by the night and all that it enshroudeth,
Yusuf AliThe Night and its Homing;
TransliterationWalqamari itha ittasaq
Sahih InternationalAnd [by] the moon when it becomes full
PickthallAnd by the moon when she is at the full,
Yusuf AliAnd the Moon in her fullness:
TransliterationLatarkabunna tabaqan AAan tabaq
Sahih International[That] you will surely experience state after state.
PickthallThat ye shall journey on from plane to plane.
Yusuf AliYe shall surely travel from stage to stage.
TransliterationFama lahum la yu/minoon
Sahih InternationalSo what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,
PickthallWhat aileth them, then, that they believe not
Yusuf AliWhat then is the matter with them, that they believe not?-
TransliterationWa-itha quri-a AAalayhimu alqur-anula yasjudoon
Sahih InternationalAnd when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah ]?
PickthallAnd, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)?
Yusuf AliAnd when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate,
TransliterationBali allatheena kafaroo yukaththiboon
Sahih InternationalBut those who have disbelieved deny,
PickthallNay, but those who disbelieve will deny;
Yusuf AliBut on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it).
TransliterationWallahu aAAlamu bimayooAAoon
Sahih InternationalAnd Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.
PickthallAnd Allah knoweth best what they are hiding.
Yusuf AliBut Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts)
TransliterationFabashshirhum biAAathabin aleem
Sahih InternationalSo give them tidings of a painful punishment,
PickthallSo give them tidings of a painful doom,
Yusuf AliSo announce to them a Penalty Grievous,
TransliterationIlla allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati lahum ajrun ghayrumamnoon
Sahih InternationalExcept for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.
PickthallSave those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing.
Yusuf AliExcept to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail.
