Surah Al-'A`lá - سورة الأعلى
(The Most High)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
TransliterationSabbihi isma rabbika al-aAAla
Sahih InternationalExalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,
PickthallPraise the name of thy Lord the Most High,
Yusuf AliGlorify the name of thy Guardian-Lord Most High,
TransliterationAllathee khalaqa fasawwa
Sahih InternationalWho created and proportioned
PickthallWho createth, then disposeth;
Yusuf AliWho hath created, and further, given order and proportion;
TransliterationWallathee qaddara fahada
Sahih InternationalAnd who destined and [then] guided
PickthallWho measureth, then guideth;
Yusuf AliWho hath ordained laws. And granted guidance;
TransliterationWallathee akhraja almarAAa
Sahih InternationalAnd who brings out the pasture
PickthallWho bringeth forth the pasturage,
Yusuf AliAnd Who bringeth out the (green and luscious) pasture,
TransliterationFajaAAalahu ghuthaan ahwa
Sahih InternationalAnd [then] makes it black stubble.
PickthallThen turneth it to russet stubble.
Yusuf AliAnd then doth make it (but) swarthy stubble.
TransliterationSanuqri-oka fala tansa
Sahih InternationalWe will make you recite, [O Muhammad], and you will not forget,
PickthallWe shall make thee read (O Muhammad) so that thou shalt not forget
Yusuf AliBy degrees shall We teach thee to declare (the Message), so thou shalt not forget,
TransliterationIlla ma shaa Allahuinnahu yaAAlamu aljahra wama yakhfa
Sahih InternationalExcept what Allah should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden.
PickthallSave that which Allah willeth. Lo! He knoweth the disclosed and that which still is hidden;
Yusuf AliExcept as Allah wills: For He knoweth what is manifest and what is hidden.
Sahih InternationalAnd We will ease you toward ease.
PickthallAnd We shall ease thy way unto the state of ease.
Yusuf AliAnd We will make it easy for thee (to follow) the simple (Path).
TransliterationFathakkir in nafaAAati aththikra
Sahih InternationalSo remind, if the reminder should benefit;
PickthallTherefor remind (men), for of use is the reminder.
Yusuf AliTherefore give admonition in case the admonition profits (the hearer).
TransliterationSayaththakkaru man yakhsha
Sahih InternationalHe who fears [ Allah ] will be reminded.
PickthallHe will heed who feareth,
Yusuf AliThe admonition will be received by those who fear (Allah):
Sahih InternationalBut the wretched one will avoid it -
PickthallBut the most hapless will flout it,
Yusuf AliBut it will be avoided by those most unfortunate ones,
TransliterationAllathee yasla annaraalkubra
Sahih International[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire,
PickthallHe who will be flung to the great Fire
Yusuf AliWho will enter the Great Fire,
TransliterationThumma la yamootu feeha walayahya
Sahih InternationalNeither dying therein nor living.
PickthallWherein he will neither die nor live.
Yusuf AliIn which they will then neither die nor live.
TransliterationQad aflaha man tazakka
Sahih InternationalHe has certainly succeeded who purifies himself
PickthallHe is successful who groweth,
Yusuf AliBut those will prosper who purify themselves,
TransliterationWathakara isma rabbihi fasalla
Sahih InternationalAnd mentions the name of his Lord and prays.
PickthallAnd remembereth the name of his Lord, so prayeth,
Yusuf AliAnd glorify the name of their Guardian-Lord, and (lift their hearts) in prayer.
TransliterationBal tu/thiroona alhayata addunya
Sahih InternationalBut you prefer the worldly life,
PickthallBut ye prefer the life of the world
Yusuf AliDay (behold), ye prefer the life of this world;
TransliterationWal-akhiratu khayrun waabqa
Sahih InternationalWhile the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
PickthallAlthough the Hereafter is better and more lasting.
Yusuf AliBut the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
TransliterationInna hatha lafee assuhufial-oola
Sahih InternationalIndeed, this is in the former scriptures,
PickthallLo! This is in the former scrolls.
Yusuf AliAnd this is in the Books of the earliest (Revelation),-
