Surah Al-Ghāshiyah - سورة الغاشية
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
TransliterationHal ataka hadeethu alghashiyat
Sahih InternationalHas there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]?
PickthallHath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming?
Yusuf AliHas the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)?
TransliterationWujoohun yawma-ithin khashiAAa
Sahih International[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled,
PickthallOn that day (many) faces will be downcast,
Yusuf AliSome faces, that Day, will be humiliated,
Sahih InternationalWorking [hard] and exhausted.
Yusuf AliLabouring (hard), weary,-
TransliterationTasla naran hamiya
Sahih InternationalThey will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire.
PickthallScorched by burning fire,
Yusuf AliThe while they enter the Blazing Fire,-
TransliterationTusqa min AAaynin aniya
Sahih InternationalThey will be given drink from a boiling spring.
PickthallDrinking from a boiling spring,
Yusuf AliThe while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring,
TransliterationLaysa lahum taAAamun illamin dareeAA
Sahih InternationalFor them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant
PickthallNo food for them save bitter thorn-fruit
Yusuf AliNo food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari'
TransliterationLa yusminu wala yughnee minjooAA
Sahih InternationalWhich neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.
PickthallWhich doth not nourish nor release from hunger.
Yusuf AliWhich will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger.
TransliterationWujoohun yawma-ithin naAAima
Sahih International[Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure.
PickthallIn that day other faces will be calm,
Yusuf Ali(Other) faces that Day will be joyful,
Sahih InternationalWith their effort [they are] satisfied
PickthallGlad for their effort past,
Yusuf AliPleased with their striving,-
TransliterationFee jannatin AAaliya
Sahih InternationalIn an elevated garden,
PickthallIn a high Garden
Yusuf AliIn a Garden on high,
TransliterationLa tasmaAAu feeha laghiya
Sahih InternationalWherein they will hear no unsuitable speech.
PickthallWhere they hear no idle speech,
Yusuf AliWhere they shall hear no (word) of vanity:
TransliterationFeeha AAaynun jariya
Sahih InternationalWithin it is a flowing spring.
PickthallWherein is a gushing spring,
Yusuf AliTherein will be a bubbling spring:
TransliterationFeeha sururun marfooAAa
Sahih InternationalWithin it are couches raised high
PickthallWherein are couches raised
Yusuf AliTherein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high,
Sahih InternationalAnd cups put in place
PickthallAnd goblets set at hand
Yusuf AliGoblets placed (ready),
Sahih InternationalAnd cushions lined up
PickthallAnd cushions ranged
Yusuf AliAnd cushions set in rows,
Sahih InternationalAnd carpets spread around.
PickthallAnd silken carpets spread.
Yusuf AliAnd rich carpets (all) spread out.
TransliterationAfala yanthuroona ilaal-ibili kayfa khuliqat
Sahih InternationalThen do they not look at the camels - how they are created?
PickthallWill they not regard the camels, how they are created?
Yusuf AliDo they not look at the Camels, how they are made?-
TransliterationWa-ila assama-i kayfarufiAAat
Sahih InternationalAnd at the sky - how it is raised?
PickthallAnd the heaven, how it is raised?
Yusuf AliAnd at the Sky, how it is raised high?-
TransliterationWa-ila aljibali kayfa nusibat
Sahih InternationalAnd at the mountains - how they are erected?
PickthallAnd the hills, how they are set up?
Yusuf AliAnd at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?-
TransliterationWa-ila al-ardi kayfa sutihat
Sahih InternationalAnd at the earth - how it is spread out?
PickthallAnd the earth, how it is spread?
Yusuf AliAnd at the Earth, how it is spread out?
TransliterationFathakkir innama anta muthakkir
Sahih InternationalSo remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder.
PickthallRemind them, for thou art but a remembrancer,
Yusuf AliTherefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish.
TransliterationLasta AAalayhim bimusaytir
Sahih InternationalYou are not over them a controller.
PickthallThou art not at all a warder over them.
Yusuf AliThou art not one to manage (men's) affairs.
TransliterationIlla man tawalla wakafar
Sahih InternationalHowever, he who turns away and disbelieves -
PickthallBut whoso is averse and disbelieveth,
Yusuf AliBut if any turn away and reject Allah,-
TransliterationFayuAAaththibuhu Allahu alAAathabaal-akbar
Sahih InternationalThen Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.
PickthallAllah will punish him with direst punishment.
Yusuf AliAllah will punish him with a mighty Punishment,
TransliterationInna ilayna iyabahum
Sahih InternationalIndeed, to Us is their return.
PickthallLo! unto Us is their return
Yusuf AliFor to Us will be their return;
