Surah Ash-Sharĥ - سورة الشرح
(The Opening Forth)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
TransliterationAlam nashrah laka sadrak
Sahih InternationalDid We not expand for you, [O Muhammad], your breast?
PickthallHave We not caused thy bosom to dilate,
Yusuf AliHave We not expanded thee thy breast?-
TransliterationWawadaAAna AAanka wizrak
Sahih InternationalAnd We removed from you your burden
PickthallAnd eased thee of the burden
Yusuf AliAnd removed from thee thy burden
TransliterationAllathee anqada thahrak
Sahih InternationalWhich had weighed upon your back
PickthallWhich weighed down thy back;
Yusuf AliThe which did gall thy back?-
TransliterationWarafaAAna laka thikrak
Sahih InternationalAnd raised high for you your repute.
PickthallAnd exalted thy fame?
Yusuf AliAnd raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)?
TransliterationFa-inna maAAa alAAusri yusra
Sahih InternationalFor indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
PickthallBut lo! with hardship goeth ease,
Yusuf AliSo, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief:
TransliterationInna maAAa alAAusri yusra
Sahih InternationalIndeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
PickthallLo! with hardship goeth ease;
Yusuf AliVerily, with every difficulty there is relief.
TransliterationFa-itha faraghta fansab
Sahih InternationalSo when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship].
PickthallSo when thou art relieved, still toil
Yusuf AliTherefore, when thou art free (from thine immediate task), still labour hard,
