Chapter 54
Surah Al-Qamar - سورة القمر
(The Moon)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Transliteration
Iqtarabati assaAAatu wanshaqqaalqamarSahih International
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].Pickthall
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. Yusuf Ali
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder.Transliteration
Wa-in yaraw ayatan yuAAridoowayaqooloo sihrun mustamirrSahih International
And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic."Pickthall
And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion.Yusuf Ali
But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic."Transliteration
Wakaththaboo wattabaAAoo ahwaahumwakullu amrin mustaqirrSahih International
And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.Pickthall
They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decisionYusuf Ali
They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time.Transliteration
Walaqad jaahum mina al-anba-i mafeehi muzdajarSahih International
And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence -Pickthall
And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter,Yusuf Ali
There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them),Transliteration
Hikmatun balighatun famatughnee annuthurSahih International
Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them].Pickthall
Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. Yusuf Ali
Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not.Transliteration
Fatawalla AAanhum yawma yadAAu addaAAiila shay-in nukurSahih International
So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding,Pickthall
So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing.Yusuf Ali
Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair,Transliteration
KhushshaAAan absaruhum yakhrujoonamina al-ajdathi kaannahum jaradun muntashirSahih International
Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading,Pickthall
With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad,Yusuf Ali
They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad,Transliteration
MuhtiAAeena ila addaAAiyaqoolu alkafiroona hatha yawmun AAasirSahih International
Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day."Pickthall
Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day.Yusuf Ali
Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say.Transliteration
Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohinfakaththaboo AAabdana waqaloo majnoonun wazdujirSahih International
The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled.Pickthall
The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed.Yusuf Ali
Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out.Transliteration
FadaAAa rabbahu annee maghloobun fantasirSahih International
So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help."Pickthall
So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help.Yusuf Ali
Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!"Transliteration
Fafatahna abwaba assama-ibima-in munhamirSahih International
Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring downPickthall
Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water Yusuf Ali
So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. Transliteration
Wafajjarna al-arda AAuyoonanfaltaqa almao AAala amrin qad qudirSahih International
And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined.Pickthall
And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose.Yusuf Ali
And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed.Transliteration
Wahamalnahu AAala thatialwahin wadusurSahih International
And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails,Pickthall
And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, Yusuf Ali
But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre:Transliteration
Tajree bi-aAAyunina jazaanliman kana kufirSahih International
Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied.Pickthall
That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected.Yusuf Ali
She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)!Transliteration
Walaqad taraknaha ayatanfahal min muddakirSahih International
And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?Pickthall
And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth?Yusuf Ali
And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition?Transliteration
Fakayfa kana AAathabee wanuthurSahih International
And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.Pickthall
Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! Yusuf Ali
But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? Transliteration
Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakirSahih International
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?Pickthall
And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth?Yusuf Ali
And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?Transliteration
Kaththabat AAadun fakayfa kanaAAathabee wanuthurSahih International
'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.Pickthall
(The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings.Yusuf Ali
The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning?Transliteration
Inna arsalna AAalayhim reehansarsaran fee yawmi nahsin mustamirrSahih International
Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune,Pickthall
Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity,Yusuf Ali
For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster,Transliteration
TanziAAu annasa kaannahumaAAjazu nakhlin munqaAAirSahih International
Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted.Pickthall
Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees.Yusuf Ali
Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground).Transliteration
Fakayfa kana AAathabee wanuthurSahih International
And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.Pickthall
Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! Yusuf Ali
Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! Transliteration
Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakirSahih International
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?Pickthall
And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth?Yusuf Ali
But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?Transliteration
Kaththabat thamoodu binnuthurSahih International
Thamud denied the warningPickthall
(The tribe of) Thamud rejected warnings Yusuf Ali
The Thamud (also) rejected (their) Warners. Transliteration
Faqaloo abasharan minna wahidannattabiAAuhu inna ithan lafee dalalinwasuAAurSahih International
And said, "Is it one human being among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness.Pickthall
For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness.Yusuf Ali
For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad!Transliteration
Aolqiya aththikru AAalayhimin baynina bal huwa kaththabun ashirSahih International
Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar."Pickthall
Hath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us? Nay, but he is a rash liar.Yusuf Ali
"Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!"Transliteration
SayaAAlamoona ghadan mani alkaththabual-ashirSahih International
They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar.Pickthall
(Unto their warner it was said): To-morrow they will know who is the rash liar.Yusuf Ali
Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one!Transliteration
Inna mursiloo annaqatifitnatan lahum fartaqibhum wastabirSahih International
Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient.Pickthall
Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience;Yusuf Ali
For We will send the she-camel by way of trial for them. So watch them, (O Salih), and possess thyself in patience!Transliteration
Wanabbi/hum anna almaa qismatunbaynahum kullu shirbin muhtadarSahih International
And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn].Pickthall
And inform them that the water is to be shared between (her and) them. Every drinking will be witnessed.Yusuf Ali
And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns).Transliteration
Fanadaw sahibahum fataAAatafaAAaqarSahih International
But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her].Pickthall
But they call their comrade and he took and hamstrung (her). Yusuf Ali
But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her).Transliteration
Fakayfa kana AAathabee wanuthurSahih International
And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.Pickthall
Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! Yusuf Ali
Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! Transliteration
Inna arsalna AAalayhim sayhatanwahidatan fakanoo kahasheemi almuhtathirSahih International
Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen.Pickthall
Lo! We sent upon them one Shout, and they became as the dry twigs (rejected by) the builder of a cattle-fold.Yusuf Ali
For We sent against them a single Mighty Blast, and they became like the dry stubble used by one who pens cattle.Transliteration
Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakirSahih International
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?Pickthall
And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth?Yusuf Ali
And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?Transliteration
Kaththabat qawmu lootin binnuthurSahih International
The people of Lot denied the warning.Pickthall
The folk of Lot rejected warnings. Yusuf Ali
The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. Transliteration
Inna arsalna AAalayhim hasibanilla ala lootin najjaynahum bisaharSahih International
Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawnPickthall
Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night,Yusuf Ali
We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,-Transliteration
NiAAmatan min AAindina kathalikanajzee man shakarSahih International
As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful.Pickthall
As grace from Us. Thus We reward him who giveth thanks. Yusuf Ali
As a Grace from Us: thus do We reward those who give thanks. Transliteration
Walaqad antharahum batshatanafatamaraw binnuthurSahih International
And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning.Pickthall
And he indeed had warned them of Our blow, but they did doubt the warnings.Yusuf Ali
And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning.Transliteration
Walaqad rawadoohu AAan dayfihifatamasna aAAyunahum fathooqoo AAathabeewanuthurSahih International
And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning."Pickthall
They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings!Yusuf Ali
And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning."Transliteration
Walaqad sabbahahum bukratanAAathabun mustaqirrSahih International
And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment.Pickthall
And in truth the punishment decreed befell them early in the morning.Yusuf Ali
Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them: Transliteration
Fathooqoo AAathabee wanuthurSahih International
So taste My punishment and warning.Pickthall
Now taste My punishment after My warnings! Yusuf Ali
"Sotaste ye My Wrath and My Warning." Transliteration
Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakirSahih International
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?Pickthall
And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth?Yusuf Ali
And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?Transliteration
Walaqad jaa ala firAAawna annuthurSahih International
And there certainly came to the people of Pharaoh warning.Pickthall
And warnings came in truth unto the house of Pharaoh Yusuf Ali
To the People of Pharaoh, too, aforetime, came Warners (from Allah).Transliteration
Kaththaboo bi-ayatinakulliha faakhathnahum akhthaAAazeezin muqtadirSahih International
They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability.Pickthall
Who denied Our revelations, every one. Therefore We grasped them with the grasp of the Mighty, the Powerful.Yusuf Ali
The (people) rejected all Our Signs; but We seized them with such Penalty (as comes) from One Exalted in Power, able to carry out His Will.Transliteration
Akuffarukum khayrun min ola-ikumam lakum baraatun fee azzuburSahih International
Are your disbelievers better than those [former ones], or have you immunity in the scripture?Pickthall
Are your disbelievers better than those, or have ye some immunity in the scriptures?Yusuf Ali
Are your Unbelievers, (O Quraish), better than they? Or have ye an immunity in the Sacred Books?Transliteration
Am yaqooloona nahnu jameeAAun muntasirSahih International
Or do they say, "We are an assembly supporting [each other]"?Pickthall
Or say they: We are a host victorious? Yusuf Ali
Or do they say: "We acting together can defend ourselves"? Transliteration
Sayuhzamu aljamAAu wayuwalloona adduburSahih International
[Their] assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in retreat].Pickthall
The hosts will all be routed and will turn and flee. Yusuf Ali
Soon will their multitude be put to flight, and they will show their backs.Transliteration
Bali assaAAatu mawAAiduhum wassaAAatuadha waamarSahih International
But the Hour is their appointment [for due punishment], and the Hour is more disastrous and more bitter.Pickthall
Nay, but the Hour (of doom) is their appointed tryst, and the Hour will be more wretched and more bitter (than their earthly failure).Yusuf Ali
Nay, the Hour (of Judgment) is the time promised them (for their full recompense): And that Hour will be most grievous and most bitter.Transliteration
Inna almujrimeena fee dalalinwasuAAurSahih International
Indeed, the criminals are in error and madness.Pickthall
Lo! the guilty are in error and madness. Yusuf Ali
Truly those in sin are the ones straying in mind, and mad. Transliteration
Yawma yushaboona fee annariAAala wujoohihim thooqoo massa saqarSahih International
The Day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces [it will be said], "Taste the touch of Saqar."Pickthall
On the day when they are dragged into the Fire upon their faces (it is said unto them): Feel the touch of hell.Yusuf Ali
The Day they will be dragged through the Fire on their faces, (they will hear:) "Taste ye the touch of Hell!"Transliteration
Inna kulla shay-in khalaqnahubiqadarSahih International
Indeed, all things We created with predestination.Pickthall
Lo! We have created every thing by measure. Yusuf Ali
Verily, all things have We created in proportion and measure. Transliteration
Wama amruna illa wahidatunkalamhin bilbasarSahih International
And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.Pickthall
And Our commandment is but one (commandment), as the twinkling of an eye.Yusuf Ali
And Our Command is but a single (Act),- like the twinkling of an eye.Transliteration
Walaqad ahlakna ashyaAAakumfahal min muddakirSahih International
And We have already destroyed your kinds, so is there any who will remember?Pickthall
And verily We have destroyed your fellows; but is there any that remembereth?Yusuf Ali
And (oft) in the past, have We destroyed gangs like unto you: then is there any that will receive admonition?Transliteration
Wakullu shay-in faAAaloohu fee azzuburSahih International
And everything they did is in written records.Pickthall
And every thing they did is in the scriptures, Yusuf Ali
All that they do is noted in (their) Books (of Deeds): Transliteration
Wakullu sagheerin wakabeerin mustatarSahih International
And every small and great [thing] is inscribed.Pickthall
And every small and great thing is recorded. Yusuf Ali
Every matter, small and great, is on record. Transliteration
Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwanaharSahih International
Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers,Pickthall
Lo! the righteous will dwell among gardens and rivers, Yusuf Ali
As to the Righteous, they will be in the midst of Gardens and Rivers,
