Chapter 69
Surah Al-Ĥāqqah - سورة الحاقة
(The Inevitable)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Transliteration
AlhaqqaSahih International
The Inevitable Reality -Pickthall
The Reality! Yusuf Ali
The Sure Reality! Transliteration
Ma alhaqqaSahih International
What is the Inevitable Reality?Pickthall
What is the Reality? Yusuf Ali
What is the Sure Reality? Transliteration
Wama adraka ma alhaqqaSahih International
And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?Pickthall
Ah, what will convey unto thee what the reality is! Yusuf Ali
And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is? Transliteration
Kaththabat thamoodu waAAadun bilqariAAaSahih International
Thamud and 'Aad denied the Striking Calamity.Pickthall
(The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come.Yusuf Ali
The Thamud and the 'Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning Calamity!Transliteration
Faamma thamoodu faohlikoo bittaghiyaSahih International
So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].Pickthall
As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the lightning. Yusuf Ali
But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning!Transliteration
Waamma AAadun faohlikoo bireehinsarsarin AAatiyaSahih International
And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent windPickthall
And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind,Yusuf Ali
And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent;Transliteration
Sakhkharaha AAalayhim sabAAa layalinwathamaniyata ayyamin husooman fataraalqawma feeha sarAAa kaannahum aAAjazunakhlin khawiyaSahih International
Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.Pickthall
Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm-trees.Yusuf Ali
He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down!Transliteration
Fahal tara lahum min baqiyaSahih International
Then do you see of them any remains?Pickthall
Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? Yusuf Ali
Then seest thou any of them left surviving? Transliteration
Wajaa firAAawnu waman qablahu walmu/tafikatubilkhati-aSahih International
And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.Pickthall
And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error,Yusuf Ali
And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin.Transliteration
FaAAasaw rasoola rabbihim faakhathahumakhthatan rabiyaSahih International
And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].Pickthall
And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip.Yusuf Ali
And disobeyed (each) the messenger of their Lord; so He punished them with an abundant Penalty.Transliteration
Inna lamma taghaalmao hamalnakum fee aljariyaSahih International
Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing shipPickthall
Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship Yusuf Ali
We, when the water (of Noah's Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark),Transliteration
LinajAAalaha lakum tathkiratanwataAAiyaha othunun waAAiyaSahih International
That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.Pickthall
That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember.Yusuf Ali
That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance.Transliteration
Fa-itha nufikha fee assoorinafkhatun wahidaSahih International
Then when the Horn is blown with one blastPickthall
And when the trumpet shall sound one blast Yusuf Ali
Then, when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet, Transliteration
Wahumilati al-ardu waljibalufadukkata dakkatan wahidaSahih International
And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow -Pickthall
And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash,Yusuf Ali
And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,-Transliteration
Fayawma-ithin waqaAAati alwaqiAAaSahih International
Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur,Pickthall
Then, on that day will the Event befall. Yusuf Ali
On that Day shall the (Great) Event come to pass. Transliteration
Wanshaqqati assamaofahiya yawma-ithin wahiyaSahih International
And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.Pickthall
And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail.Yusuf Ali
And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy,Transliteration
Walmalaku AAala arja-ihawayahmilu AAarsha rabbika fawqahum yawma-ithin thamaniyaSahih International
And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].Pickthall
And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them.Yusuf Ali
And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them.Transliteration
Yawma-ithin tuAAradoona latakhfa minkum khafiyaSahih International
That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.Pickthall
On that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden.Yusuf Ali
That Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours that ye hide will be hidden.Transliteration
Faamma man ootiya kitabahubiyameenihi fayaqoolu haomu iqraoo kitabiyahSahih International
So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!Pickthall
Then, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: Take, read my book!Yusuf Ali
Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record!Transliteration
Innee thanantu annee mulaqinhisabiyahSahih International
Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."Pickthall
Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. Yusuf Ali
"I did really understand that my Account would (One Day) reach me!"Transliteration
Fahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiyaSahih International
So he will be in a pleasant life -Pickthall
Then he will be in blissful state Yusuf Ali
And he will be in a life of Bliss, Transliteration
Fee jannatin AAaliyaSahih International
In an elevated garden,Pickthall
In a high garden Yusuf Ali
In a Garden on high, Transliteration
Qutoofuha daniyaSahih International
Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.Pickthall
Whereof the clusters are in easy reach. Yusuf Ali
The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near. Transliteration
Kuloo washraboo hanee-an bimaaslaftum fee al-ayyami alkhaliyaSahih International
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."Pickthall
(And it will be said unto those therein): Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days.Yusuf Ali
"Eat ye and drink ye, with full satisfaction; because of the (good) that ye sent before you, in the days that are gone!"Transliteration
Waamma man ootiya kitabahubishimalihi fayaqoolu ya laytanee lam oota kitabiyahSahih International
But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my recordPickthall
But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: Oh, would that I had not been given my bookYusuf Ali
And he that will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "Ah! Would that my Record had not been given to me!Transliteration
Walam adri ma hisabiyahSahih International
And had not known what is my account.Pickthall
And knew not what my reckoning! Yusuf Ali
"And that I had never realised how my account (stood)! Transliteration
Ya laytaha kanati alqadiyaSahih International
I wish my death had been the decisive one.Pickthall
Oh, would that it had been death! Yusuf Ali
"Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me! Transliteration
Ma aghna AAannee maliyahSahih International
My wealth has not availed me.Pickthall
My wealth hath not availed me, Yusuf Ali
"Of no profit to me has been my wealth! Transliteration
Halaka AAannee sultaniyahSahih International
Gone from me is my authority."Pickthall
My power hath gone from me. Yusuf Ali
"My power has perished from me!"... Transliteration
Khuthoohu faghulloohSahih International
[ Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him.Pickthall
(It will be said): Take him and fetter him Yusuf Ali
(The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him, Transliteration
Thumma aljaheema salloohSahih International
Then into Hellfire drive him.Pickthall
And then expose him to hell-fire Yusuf Ali
"And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire. Transliteration
Thumma fee silsilatin tharAAuhasabAAoona thiraAAan faslukoohSahih International
Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."Pickthall
And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits.Yusuf Ali
"Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits!Transliteration
Innahu kana la yu/minu billahialAAatheemSahih International
Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allah , the Most Great,Pickthall
Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous, Yusuf Ali
"This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High. Transliteration
Wala yahuddu AAalataAAami almiskeenSahih International
Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.Pickthall
And urged not on the feeding of the wretched. Yusuf Ali
"And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent! Transliteration
Falaysa lahu alyawma hahuna hameemSahih International
So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friendPickthall
Therefor hath he no lover here this day, Yusuf Ali
"So no friend hath he here this Day. Transliteration
Wala taAAamun illamin ghisleenSahih International
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;Pickthall
Nor any food save filth Yusuf Ali
"Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds,Transliteration
La ya/kuluhu illa alkhati-oonSahih International
None will eat it except the sinners.Pickthall
Which none but sinners eat. Yusuf Ali
"Which none do eat but those in sin." Transliteration
Fala oqsimu bima tubsiroonSahih International
So I swear by what you seePickthall
But nay! I swear by all that ye see Yusuf Ali
So I do call to witness what ye see, Transliteration
Wama la tubsiroonSahih International
And what you do not seePickthall
And all that ye see not Yusuf Ali
And what ye see not, Transliteration
Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareemSahih International
[That] indeed, the Qur'an is the word of a noble Messenger.Pickthall
That it is indeed the speech of an illustrious messenger. Yusuf Ali
That this is verily the word of an honoured messenger; Transliteration
Wama huwa biqawli shaAAirinqaleelan ma tu/minoonSahih International
And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.Pickthall
It is not poet's speech - little is it that ye believe! Yusuf Ali
It is not the word of a poet: little it is ye believe! Transliteration
Wala biqawli kahinin qaleelanma tathakkaroonSahih International
Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.Pickthall
Nor diviner's speech - little is it that ye remember! Yusuf Ali
Nor is it the word of a soothsayer: little admonition it is ye receive.Transliteration
Tanzeelun min rabbi alAAalameenSahih International
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.Pickthall
It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds. Yusuf Ali
(This is) a Message sent down from the Lord of the Worlds. Transliteration
Walaw taqawwala AAalayna baAAdaal-aqaweelSahih International
And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings,Pickthall
And if he had invented false sayings concerning Us, Yusuf Ali
And if the messenger were to invent any sayings in Our name, Transliteration
Laakhathna minhu bilyameenSahih International
We would have seized him by the right hand;Pickthall
We assuredly had taken him by the right hand Yusuf Ali
We should certainly seize him by his right hand, Transliteration
Thumma laqataAAna minhualwateenSahih International
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.Pickthall
And then severed his life-artery, Yusuf Ali
And We should certainly then cut off the artery of his heart: Transliteration
Fama minkum min ahadin AAanhu hajizeenSahih International
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.Pickthall
And not one of you could have held Us off from him. Yusuf Ali
Nor could any of you withhold him (from Our wrath). Transliteration
Wa-innahu latathkiratun lilmuttaqeenSahih International
And indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder for the righteous.Pickthall
And lo! it is a warrant unto those who ward off (evil). Yusuf Ali
But verily this is a Message for the Allah-fearing. Transliteration
Wa-inna lanaAAlamu anna minkum mukaththibeenSahih International
And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.Pickthall
And lo! We know that some among you will deny (it). Yusuf Ali
And We certainly know that there are amongst you those that reject (it).Transliteration
Wa-innahu lahasratun AAala alkafireenSahih International
And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.Pickthall
And lo! it is indeed an anguish for the disbelievers. Yusuf Ali
But truly (Revelation) is a cause of sorrow for the Unbelievers.Transliteration
Wa-innahu lahaqqu alyaqeenSahih International
And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.Pickthall
And lo! it is absolute truth. Yusuf Ali
But verily it is Truth of assured certainty.
