Chapter 78
Surah An-Naba' - سورة النبإ
(The Great News)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Transliteration
AAamma yatasaaloonSahih International
About what are they asking one another?Pickthall
Whereof do they question one another? Yusuf Ali
Concerning what are they disputing? Transliteration
AAani annaba-i alAAatheemSahih International
About the great news -Pickthall
(It is) of the awful tidings, Yusuf Ali
Concerning the Great News, Transliteration
Allathee hum feehi mukhtalifoonSahih International
That over which they are in disagreement.Pickthall
Concerning which they are in disagreement. Yusuf Ali
About which they cannot agree. Transliteration
Kalla sayaAAlamoonSahih International
No! They are going to know.Pickthall
Nay, but they will come to know! Yusuf Ali
Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! Transliteration
Thumma kalla sayaAAlamoonSahih International
Then, no! They are going to know.Pickthall
Nay, again, but they will come to know! Yusuf Ali
Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! Transliteration
Alam najAAali al-arda mihadaSahih International
Have We not made the earth a resting place?Pickthall
Have We not made the earth an expanse, Yusuf Ali
Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, Transliteration
Waljibala awtadaSahih International
And the mountains as stakes?Pickthall
And the high hills bulwarks? Yusuf Ali
And the mountains as pegs? Transliteration
Wakhalaqnakum azwajaSahih International
And We created you in pairsPickthall
And We have created you in pairs, Yusuf Ali
And (have We not) created you in pairs, Transliteration
WajaAAalna nawmakum subataSahih International
And made your sleep [a means for] restPickthall
And have appointed your sleep for repose, Yusuf Ali
And made your sleep for rest, Transliteration
WajaAAalna allayla libasaSahih International
And made the night as clothingPickthall
And have appointed the night as a cloak, Yusuf Ali
And made the night as a covering, Transliteration
WajaAAalna annaharamaAAashaSahih International
And made the day for livelihoodPickthall
And have appointed the day for livelihood. Yusuf Ali
And made the day as a means of subsistence? Transliteration
Wabanayna fawqakum sabAAan shidadaSahih International
And constructed above you seven strong [heavens]Pickthall
And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), Yusuf Ali
And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, Transliteration
WajaAAalna sirajan wahhajaSahih International
And made [therein] a burning lampPickthall
And have appointed a dazzling lamp, Yusuf Ali
And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? Transliteration
Waanzalna mina almuAAsiratimaan thajjajaSahih International
And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring waterPickthall
And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, Yusuf Ali
And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, Transliteration
Linukhrija bihi habban wanabataSahih International
That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetationPickthall
Thereby to produce grain and plant, Yusuf Ali
That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, Transliteration
Wajannatin alfafaSahih International
And gardens of entwined growth.Pickthall
And gardens of thick foliage. Yusuf Ali
And gardens of luxurious growth? Transliteration
Inna yawma alfasli kana meeqataSahih International
Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time -Pickthall
Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, Yusuf Ali
Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, Transliteration
Yawma yunfakhu fee assoorifata/toona afwajaSahih International
The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudesPickthall
A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, Yusuf Ali
The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds;Transliteration
Wafutihati assamao fakanatabwabaSahih International
And the heaven is opened and will become gatewaysPickthall
And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, Yusuf Ali
And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, Transliteration
Wasuyyirati aljibalu fakanatsarabaSahih International
And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.Pickthall
And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. Yusuf Ali
And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. Transliteration
Inna jahannama kanat mirsadaSahih International
Indeed, Hell has been lying in waitPickthall
Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, Yusuf Ali
Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, Transliteration
Littagheena maabaSahih International
For the transgressors, a place of return,Pickthall
A home for the rebellious. Yusuf Ali
For the transgressors a place of destination: Transliteration
Labitheena feeha ahqabaSahih International
In which they will remain for ages [unending].Pickthall
They will abide therein for ages. Yusuf Ali
They will dwell therein for ages. Transliteration
La yathooqoona feehabardan wala sharabaSahih International
They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drinkPickthall
Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink Yusuf Ali
Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, Transliteration
Illa hameeman waghassaqaSahih International
Except scalding water and [foul] purulence -Pickthall
Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: Yusuf Ali
Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold,Transliteration
Jazaan wifaqaSahih International
An appropriate recompense.Pickthall
Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). Yusuf Ali
A fitting recompense (for them). Transliteration
Innahum kanoo la yarjoona hisabaSahih International
Indeed, they were not expecting an accountPickthall
For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; Yusuf Ali
For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), Transliteration
Wakaththaboo bi-ayatinakiththabaSahih International
And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial.Pickthall
They called Our revelations false with strong denial. Yusuf Ali
But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. Transliteration
Wakulla shay-in ahsaynahu kitabaSahih International
But all things We have enumerated in writing.Pickthall
Everything have We recorded in a Book. Yusuf Ali
And all things have We preserved on record. Transliteration
Fathooqoo falan nazeedakum illaAAathabaSahih International
"So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment."Pickthall
So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment.Yusuf Ali
"So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment."Transliteration
Inna lilmuttaqeena mafazaSahih International
Indeed, for the righteous is attainment -Pickthall
Lo! for the duteous is achievement - Yusuf Ali
Verily for the Righteous there will be a fulfilment of (the heart's) desires;Transliteration
Hada-iqa waaAAnabaSahih International
Gardens and grapevinesPickthall
Gardens enclosed and vineyards, Yusuf Ali
Gardens enclosed, and grapevines; Transliteration
WakawaAAiba atrabaSahih International
And full-breasted [companions] of equal agePickthall
And voluptuous women of equal age;Yusuf Ali
And voluptuous women of equal age;Transliteration
Waka/san dihaqaSahih International
And a full cup.Pickthall
And a full cup. Yusuf Ali
And a cup full (to the brim). Transliteration
La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwanwala kiththabaSahih International
No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood -Pickthall
There hear they never vain discourse, nor lying - Yusuf Ali
No vanity shall they hear therein, nor Untruth:- Transliteration
Jazaan min rabbika AAataan hisabaSahih International
[As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account,Pickthall
Requital from thy Lord - a gift in payment - Yusuf Ali
Recompense from thy Lord, a gift, (amply) sufficient, Transliteration
Rabbi assamawati wal-ardiwama baynahuma arrahmani layamlikoona minhu khitabaSahih International
[From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech.Pickthall
Lord of the heavens and the earth, and (all) that is between them, the Beneficent; with Whom none can converse.Yusuf Ali
(From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all between, (Allah) Most Gracious: None shall have power to argue with Him.Transliteration
Yawma yaqoomu arroohu walmala-ikatusaffan la yatakallamoona illa man athinalahu arrahmanu waqala sawabaSahih International
The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct.Pickthall
On the day when the angels and the Spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the Beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right.Yusuf Ali
The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand forth in ranks, none shall speak except any who is permitted by (Allah) Most Gracious, and He will say what is right.Transliteration
Thalika alyawmu alhaqqu famanshaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi maabaSahih International
That is the True Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return.Pickthall
That is the True Day. So whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord.Yusuf Ali
That Day will be the sure Reality: Therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) return to his Lord!Transliteration
Inna antharnakum AAathabanqareeban yawma yanthuru almaro ma qaddamatyadahu wayaqoolu alkafiru ya laytanee kuntuturabaSahih International
Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!"Pickthall
Lo! We warn you of a doom at hand, a day whereon a man will look on that which his own hands have sent before, and the disbeliever will cry: "Would that I were dust!"Yusuf Ali
Verily, We have warned you of a Penalty near, the Day when man will see (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the Unbeliever will say, "Woe unto me! Would that I were (metre) dust!"
